I've had HoI for a month or so now and have been lurking, reading and posting here for about a month aswell and I especially enjoy the AAR's. So this is my first attempt at one, and I'm hoping it doesn't seem too terrible...

Dear Diary,
I have decided to keep a journal of my thoughts and feelings as I attempt to lead my great country into the modern world. After six wonderful years in power I am now sufficently confidant to take showers in my own palace without first checking to see if a Trotskyite madman is hiding behind the curtains waiting to brutally assassinate me. As you can imagine this has had several benefits, not the least of them that my mistresses have started returning my calls. So feeling relaxed, in power and satisfyingly clean I decided to take a look at the kingdom.
Well it could have been worse. We are rich in oil and coal, with a fairly large population and a big army. Unfortunatly we are under-industrialised, deficent in steel and our army is poorly trained and equipped (the less said about our petite airforce and our even less than petite navy the better). Finally we are surrounded by countries that are either indifferent to us (and powerful) or downright dislike us (and are powerful), none of which (except perhaps Bulgaria) could be defeated by our gallant armed forces. I was determined to solve as much of this problem as I could and during the month of January I have restocked and resupplied my soldiers, iniated industrial development [OOC: in Piatra Neamt, Oradea and Sibu] and begun research into replacing some of our more obselete weaponry [OCC: researching Basic Infantry Weapons], though unfortunatly due to our industrial program our research can only proceed at 75% capacity. As I said to the PM: 'tough'. Of course it is vital to give the men something better than sticks with knives on the end but that knowledge is only so much use if we aren't able to turn out the the troops to use those sticks. Not that they will actually be armed with sticks mind you but politicians, unlike monarchs, are simple souls and need hyperbole when one is explaining.
I have to say, frankly that Tatarescu [OOC: the PM] isn't up to the job these days. 'What' I asked him 'if the Soviets invade next week?' Of course we both know that we would be instantly crushed, but really that is besides the point. A king needs to know he has a stout Prime Minister and Cabinet by his side ready to do whatever I tell them too, be it making war or peace or gallantly hurling themselves in front of grenades while I'm bravely leaving with the treasury (and the mistresses) to heroically carry on the struggle in exile. A 'Liberal-Conservative' doesn't exactly sound like that sort patriot. Oh well there will be election soon and with any look some Monarchist fo... er patriot will get elected that I can easily order about. In an enlightened constitiounal monarch way of course.
*Ahem*
See you in Febuary.
