Paying off loans

I am addicted to EU despite the manual which comes with the game. I have pretty much taught myself how to play by trial and error. However, I cannot figure out how to pay off a loan when it comes due. I had accumulated more than enough ducats to pay the loan. Since there were no popup windows and I could find no control buttons to pay off the loan I assumed the loan would be paid off automatically.

However, the loan was not paid off and continued to accumulate interest until the interest rate was quite a burden.

How do you pay off loans?

perhaps,,
the loan should come with a pop up window when payment is due. This gives you the option to pay or extend the loan.
Perhaps you have disabled these messages, in which case check it out in the options (very boring to check through all the message types but may be the best way)

My advice is don't take loans. Only give them out. I have never had a loan since I started playing.

When the time comes to repay loans, you'll see your shiled in top right corner, just like when it's time to call in allies when going to war or when allies call you. Just click on the shield and you can repay.

It's wiser though to edit message options so that loan repayment pops up and pauses the game- this way you don't miss it.
