Muscowy can be very very strong... it all depends on how the set up is. But if you united Russia, you can do a lot of damage with your manpower, and it is hard to take your provinces due to winter (even if the AI is controlling your country).

Usually a turn length of 5 years is a mininum and is good for four or more players. If there are less players, you can usually go up to 10 year turns...

Yep, I agree Muscowvy can be quite strong.

I think it would be a good idea to discuss with your friend which area you want to fight over, with only two of you it might be good to start close, otherwise it's more like a competitive single player game. (Unless that's what you want :) )

After all, what if he takes china? If playing 1419 it will be a long time before you see each other!!

I think how a nation does in a timid Single Player games suggests how well it will go in a PBEM - remember, it's that nation's AI controlling your country between turns :)
