BEHOLD PARAGUAY!!

What makes Paraguay awesome *in VIP anyway*:

Paraguay has a excellent starting general, and a fully staffed infantry division in the middle of conflicting countries at the start, but between 2 regional powers. They also have something that Argentina doesn't have, the Gaurani Culture. Plantenians are basically mixed Natives and Spaniards with white immigrants from Europe a few hundred years later all thrown in, then the Gauranis are the Indians, who might be mixed, but are still fairly dark. Paraguay has both National Cultures while Argentina only has Plantenians, which make up a huge portion of the population. This all combinded with a good human player, and some events Paraguay gets such as deliberately antagonizing Argentina for 20 prestige and some nice +production events in the Chaco combined with a proportionally equal research speed for its size *still get .65 a month* mean Paraguay is an untamed beast in VIP. The only country with more potential is Luxembourg with its North German and French Cultures, good luck with that future Charlemagnes.

How I did it :

Well First I took 1 my 1 division, and gave him to my good starting leader *dont remember his name agh!, but he is the professor* anyway, I aided the Empire of Brazil against the Printani Republic and seized those 2 territories in the beginning. Que first Prestige Boost. Then Brazil peaced out with the Printani for boredom or by event, don't remember which.

Then I moved my troops immediatley west and piggybacked off the Chilean and Argentinian efforts to destroy the Peru-Boliviar Confederation.*This happens by event* I took the majority Plantenian / Gaurani province in the west *historically won by Paraguay in a war in 1935* and got my 2nd prestige boost.

In 1840*long war as you can see* I had recruited 2 infantry divisions with guard attachments, and attacked Argentina while they were unprepared. They had their army maintenance low and only had 1000/10000 stacks on the border. Using superior speed and firepower given by the Guards I encircled unit after unit of the Argentinian and Uruguayan Army after a long struggle *at one point the Argentinians seized Ascuncion!* But I then rolled down towards Buenos Aires, and with Argentina at 100% war Exhaustion I grabbed the Peace you see before you, after of course I dealt with Uruguay.

Challenges:

Well I have a -40 Industrial score, but that is due to debt. Rebellions are very surprisingly low, only a few provinces have revolt risk, I have not a single factory, and my population is still relativley small compared to monstrous Brazil next to me*though I am sucking up to them, but frankly I am confident. However reducing Argentina next time might not be as easy. While I have their heavily populated areas and completely destroyed its Military Argentina is still outpacing me industrially, and economically.

What I also want to know is.

Is there any non-gamey way to reduce my bad boy, I am already at 27 and have to constantly suck up to Brazil.

Since this is VIP when I annex Argentina will there be a way I can take the Argentinian colonization to the South into my hands, or will I have to fight Patagonia directly?

@BEHOLD PARAGUAY!!
Congrats. :)

@The only country with more potential is Luxembourg
If you're just going by cultures, right now Texas has Texan, Dixie, & (however inappropriately :)) Mexican.

@I have not a single factory, and my population is still relativley small
Well, nothing capitalists and immigrants can't fix.

@Is there any non-gamey way to reduce my bad boy
The nongamey way is waiting on your hands.

Many players end up reduced to the gamey ways, if not outright savegame editing.

@when I annex Argentina will there be a way
I'm not sure I understand. If Patagonia is still just outposts, you can take them by simply moving a cavalry unit into the area when you're at war. You don't even have to include them in the peace agreements.

If they're already incorporated into Argentina, then yeah, you'll have to take them in a BB-increasing peace agreement or annex Argentina to get them.

edit: Or... wait. Did VIP do something silly to Patagonia like they did to the American Indians? In that case, I'm not sure. Probably they would just go their own way and you'd need to conquer / satellite them.

He said VIP, not VIP:R (and doesn't have a Revolutions icon either), so capitalists don't build anything.

But yea, immigrants should help with industrialisation and so forth. Go for it! (What's your government type?)
