GMT isnt a european time, but a universal one and we shall be using that, which is the one most known by all. If you want to know the conversion from GMT to your time, I am pretty sure that in the FAQ forum of HOI 1 has all what you are looking for, but I am too lazy to put the link here ;)

EST is GMT -5. Thus, if it is at 0100 GMT, then that is 8:00 EST.

Of course, no one is paying attention to the fact that GMT doesn't change for daylight savings time, so we would actually be starting an hour later in the evening next week when we are on EDT. I am presuming that, since the Europeans have already gone to Summer Time, we are going to be starting at 8:00 EDT, or 2400 GMT.

In which case, the first page of the game needs to be changed. ;)

ehh.... why?
I put GMT time in order to have a base time hour.... since we southamericans are not familiar with EST or EDT...

@daedalus: I hope you're still interested in joining our MP :D

Um, the trouble with referencing GMT only is that it changes during the periods that various countries go on their "summer time". For instance, in England right now, they are GMT +1, because they went to British Summer Time (BST). Central Europe is GMT +1 during the winter, but becomes GMT +2 during their "summer time."

If we had started the game on March 23, then the game time would have been 0100 GMT, which would have been 0200 for the Central Europeans, 2000 for the Eastern US, 1700 for the Western US, 2200 for Argentina and Eastern Brazil, etc. A game on March 30 would have been 0300 Central Europe, 2000 for East US, 1700 for West US, and 2200 for Argentina and East Brazil. As it is, the first night will be April 6, by which time it will start at 0200 for Central Europe, 2100 (9 pm) for East US, 1800 (6 pm) for West US and 2200 for Argentina and East Brazil.

If that is your intent, ok. But we get kinda used to leaving the start times of things the same during "summer time", which causes a shift relative to GMT.

So, in the absence of some change, the start time on April 6 will be 9 pm Eastern Daylight Time in the US.

Oh, and I note that most of Brazil, and all of Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile do the "Summer Time" thing now. Perhaps someday Argentina, Venezuela and the rest will join the modern world. :D

The whole "Summer Time" thing is stupid anyways. More like hopefully they will stay the way they are with accepting the natural progress of the seasons without trying to human-engineer nature all the time. We don't have DST here in Arizona and everyone does just fine thanks.

From Wikipedia.org

"One of the major reasons given for observing DST in the United States is energy conservation. Theoretically, the amount of residential electricity needed in the evening hours is dependent both on when sunset is and on when people go to bed. Because people tend to observe the same bedtime year-round, by artificially moving sunset one hour later, the amount of energy used is theoretically reduced. United States Department of Transportation studies showed that DST reduces the country's electricity usage by one percent each day.

Part of the reason that it is normally observed in the late spring, summer, and early autumn is because during the winter months the amount of energy saved by moving sunset one hour later is negated by the increased need for morning lighting by moving sunrise by the same amount. During the summer most people would wake up after the sun rises, regardless of whether daylight saving time is in effect or not, so there is no increased need for morning lighting to offset the afternoon energy savings."

Just for this, IMHO, it is far from stupid. I call it practical wisdom.
