Hello there. Since installing and running EUII with the 1.05 patch I've started to encounter some *very* frustrating problems. Periodically my game will freeze completely, preventing me from closing the program or searching for any remedies (ctrl-alt-delete doesn't even work). These game freezes always seem to happen when I am scrolling the screen using my mouse (or simply moving the pointer on some occasions). Usually the game soundtrack starts looping (skipping) when these errors occur as well, so perhaps the sound has something to do with it.
While I do love this game, it is now bordering on impossible to play it at any length. The last 2 lockups I had happened withing 2 minutes of starting a game and the 2 lockups before those happened within four minutes of one another. Each lockup is only escapable with a hard reset. On balance, I think I prefer the random CTD problems of the earlier patches.
I'm not sure what exactly is causing the problems but I have done the following: (1) read the 'running problems -- read before posting' thread and followed the instructions. (2) uninstalled EUII. (3) emptied temp file, diskscan, defrag, updated drivers, DXDIAG, lowered hardware acceleration. (4) reinstalled EUII and patch. (5) repeated steps 2-4 a few times, etc.
Here's what I'm running:
Europa Universalis II NA 1.05
Windows ME
1 GB Pentium III Processor on a Asus CUSL2-C Motherboard
512 MB of RAM
~10GB of free hard disk space
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 video card
Soundblaster Audigy (Gamer) sound card
I'm just about at the end of my rope here. I don't want to put EUII on the shelf because of this, as there aren't really any other games like it. Does anyone have any insights or suggestions? Has anyone had similar problems under 1.05?
