Can you only play independend nations Such as france or england and so or will you also be able to play as the Count of Paris?
If you can play as these subordinate lords the game would be even greater, just think of the possibilities. Shall i declare my independence? Shall i help my king defend or shall i keep my armies in my own territory?
Shall i have a go at being King of Jerusalem?

You may play Christian-only kings and "independent" dukes. Christian includes both Catholic and Orthodox religions. In CK there is no concept of "modern state" as EU represented. It is rather based on dynasties and feudalism.

Republics, Mongols, Pagans and Muslim states will not be playable... at release at least. ;)

:( Too bad, it would have been fun to play as a subordinate lord and then become independent.

So also no playing the County of Barcelona? :(
Or will that be counted (no pun intended :)) as a independent duke?

I agree!

It would be the next step when you have crusaded all over the place with the various kings.

a bit like playing Bosnia or Helvetia in EU

you're probably right

Wonder if the Dukes of Holstein will be playable

I guessing Burgandy, the Dutch Dukes, The German Electrates, and the Balkin States will be playible.:)

I sure hope some of the german states are playable as otherwise it wont be a very good representation of the HRE.

The Count of Paris? You can certainly play him - since he was always the same as the King of France...

What exactly is a Duke or Dukedom?
In the CK a level betwen Kingdom and County, as each province in the game will be a in-game county.

Otherwise a very high level noble not really established in Sweden (except for as honorary title for sons of the king, "hertig" and "hertigdömme" in Swedish)

Hmm...not only in CK, in RL too..;)..and the title had meaning in Sweden too in early medieval times..

Well, with the exception that some Dukes were subordinated kings or emperors, others were not (or only in name)

i am hoping that we can implement an ai patch after game release for been able to play muslim kingodms as they were much part of mediterranean and east europe political and social structure. This will give the game balance and more diversity in playing it otherwise. as i see it this game will be drowned for many wouldbe buyers by medeival war which offers far more options in its own way.

Sergei has already hinted that playing Muslim sultinates may be doable (with editing or some such thing). Personally I think it is a bad idea.

One of the things I see as a strong point of CK is the focus on a playable group which while being quite a large group is not as large as in EU II (i.e. everybody). This way there needs be fewer compromises in order to make things work well. Think back to all the complaints of those people who are/were trying to play the native Americans in EU II - they shouldn't be able to do this or tha,t and should be able to do such and such. Why these complaints? Because the system was basically made to be Eurocentric and so there were many compromises to satisfy the four or five players who thought the Americans should be playablel (not counting the folks who use the Dakotas for hands off play). In order to make the Muslims playable the whole social order of the game would need to be much broader and diluted to where many things would be abstracted.

IMHO leave the focus on the Christian rulers and make no shortcuts/abastractions to accomodate anything other than these playable dynasties.:)

HereHere Sonny, I agree I usally only play european nation's anyway. Don't change the depth with burgesses and the church just because some people want moslem nations to be playible.

I must say I agree wholeheartly with historycaesar and Sonny here. By restricting the playable nations you gain several advantages. You can model the feudal society much more accurate - the religious, political and economic situations. These are hard enough with the diversities within Christian Europe. Catering for Pagan Europe and Muslim countries would lead to more compromises when it come to depth. You can also script a much more challenging AI by not having to compromise for all kinds of playable nations (i.e. one AI for feudal countries, separate AIs for merchant states and muslim countries).
