It plays surprisingly well, not as a VR application of course, but playing it in a virtual giant screen. The only problem (and it's a big one right now) is that the small text is hard to read, but other than that it feels awesome, like playing in a cinema screen. Obviously it probably gets tiresome considering the typical long sessions you usually play these games, but maybe the next generation of headsets, with higher resolutions (and maybe lighter?) might make playing these games with a VR headset well worth it.

I wonder if I use a font enlarger mod (is that a thing?) it would fix that issue.

What to do with an oculus rift?

( ) Immersive adventure game where you are the protagonist
( ) Immersive shooter game where you can see everything in 3D
(X) Walk around a map painting it your favorite color.

Coming as a rift owner, for the intial purchase price of a rift (especially if you got touch) you could have bought a 32inch or larger 4k screen to use and got a better result. And really if you are sitting on a desk close to the screen the size isn't much different but the resolution sure as hell is. I love certain things on the rift but as a gigantic screen to play PDS games on there are better options.

PS, having actual stereoscopic 3d looking down on the world and an interface designed for VR would be cool but that's something they would have to support and something probably not worth their while.

If wonder if VorpX would work. I still play CK2 in stereoscopic 3d using nvidia 3d vision. I love it.

Until we can walk around a giant warroom style map in VR, that's how I want to play HoI.
Exactly, that's how you'd play Paradox grand strategy games in 3d. The first step is decorating the room you're in based on the era, government, and culture you have. So a medieval king looks like they're in a castle. A medieval doge looks like they're in a mansion. A modern commander looks like they're either in a conference room or a field tent.

Then take it a step further by making key people in your inner circle appear in the room with you. Have special cinematic for coronation ceremonies for when you create kingdoms, when you increase your rank, when a revolution succeeds, and when you get assassinated.

I can already imagine it;
"Experience the true immersion of getting overthrown, tortured and executed in VR in Paradox Interactive's latest game!"

Nah, you're either killed right away or only get overthrown. As soon as you're no longer in power you either switch over to your heir or the one who overthrew you (and then get to torture your old character).

I never even thought about wanting to do this!

I wonder how hard it would be to make Ck2 or Eu4 support VR.

The games are basically just giant board games after all. You could probably even support point and click instead of a mouse button and probably play very intuitively.

Yeah I was trying to convince my wife to let me spend a few grand on a new system. Currently I have a system with 2x 32" 1080 TV's, they aren't bad for what I play mostly but I've thought about doing 4k or VR. VR looks awesome with FPS and Flight Sims mostly, but I really don't play those. But 4k is also in the same price range of a VR set up, so 4k seems a bit more of an incentive for me at least. When it comes to games like HoI4.
