Considering the Mongols in new DLC don't have to worry about China at all, it does seem like the game isn't as fun or challenging it could be until they add China in AUH.

The main thing is Chinese dynasty intercede and interfere in nomadic politics a lot.

After Temujin/Ghengis Khan lost a major battle, from what we can guess he escaped to Jin Dynasty China and became a subject of Jin dynasty for almost 10 years.

Modern historians such as Ratchnevsky and Timothy May consider it very likely that Temüjin spent a large portion of the decade following the clash at Dalan Baljut as a servant of the Jurchen Jin dynasty in North China.[56] Zhao Hong recorded that the future Genghis Khan spent several years as a slave of the Jin. Formerly seen as an expression of nationalistic arrogance, the statement is now thought to be based in fact, especially as no other source convincingly explains Temüjin's activities between Dalan Baljut and c. 1195.[57] Taking refuge across the border was a common practice both for disaffected steppe leaders and disgraced Chinese officials. Temüjin's reemergence having retained significant power indicates that he probably profited in the service of the Jin.

This dynamic really isn't present in Khans of the Steppes. Yes you can become an adventurer...but how much Chinese dynasties tried to balance and make alliance between different tribes and rulers really needs to be a huge deal.

Hopefully AUH will add more Chinese-mechanics with the nomadic governments.

What happens when an unstoppable force (nomads) meets an immovable object (admin byz) next to a black hole (china)
Parity, at last?

I hope for a Slavic flavor pack next year for similar reasons, because especially the eastern Slavs had many dealings with steppe nomads, yet for now, they are just generic tribal realms. Similarly to adding east asia in All Under Heaven, a hypothetical Slavic Flavor Pack would make the nomad experience itself deeper.

If we're already talking about flavor packs we would like next year, I think a Catholicism flavor pack is necessary. EU5 is shaping out to have very in depth Catholicism mechanics while in CK3 the popes are still randomly generated!
Imagine if they add the ability to amend your religion with laws/bulls that give temporary bonuses or mechanical changes. In other religions the bulls would be passed by the religious head for some piety, but in Catholicism they would be made by the Curia (and approved by the pope ofc) and the Curia would also be voting for a new pope.
A schism where two popes exist at the same time would be possible.
You would be able to elevate bishops in your realm to the Curia as a cardinal like in CK2 but it would have an actual impact on the world.

Plus we really need improvements to how Crusades work because right now they really can't represent the first Crusade.

If the Slavic pack is anything like the Steppe pack, likely they will shaft half the slavic tribes and only one will receive flavor.

I fear that it will be entirely Russia focused, and that the Yugoslavs and West Slavic peoples will be relegated to creator packs or forgotten entirely.

Even if we do not talk about China, we are still lacking Onggirats where Temujin's wife is from, Tayichiuds a major enemy of Temujin, and Tatars who murdered his father, who all lives east of Karakorum.

Don't worry they'll make China so overwhelming you'll be trading jade coins in Algeirs
At the very least, I‘ve come around to adding China. Going West to raid Russia isn‘t worth it, and all the wealth of Persia is closer to Mesopotamia than the Transoxianan frontier; by the time you raid Baghdad, you‘ve already won, so adding China and a route east should add to the Nomad loop a fair bit.

Probably going to totally scuff the balance, but at least we have EU5.

The issue isn't just having place to invade but a major power like China taking active interest in messing with nomadic tribes to try and ensure there's no one powerful tribe like what Ghengis would later become.

But also china several times failed to stop the tribes unifying, or the empire it cozied up to collapsed after a long period of sinicisation, or china is too weak to meddle in steppe affairs due to civil war/ balkanisation of china

Why do you need to raid baghdad?

But what steppe empire raided that far? If youre doing a ghaznavids or seljuk, then youre just conquering iran and making the caliph your vassal. If you're doing a genghis you just destroy the city after conquering iran
I think my initial quip was misunderstood.

I know perfectly well that raiding Baghdad is logistically impossible.

My point being that the only genuinely rich frontier bordering the Eurasian steppe, worth raiding, is China.

Russia and Siberia are almost as poor as you are, and Transoxiana isn‘t rich.
