Is there any way you can get it without downloading the IGC?(I've seen Brittany,Burgundy, etc pop up during successful rebellions......but I wonder if you could make Byzantium appear in a similar way)

Other nations can be edited in pretty simply, but for Byzantium you need to edit text.csv and change shields too - or just use the IGC's prepared work.
(You can study how they did and use thier graphics without installing the whole shebang)

Hmmm, sounds complicated, can I just edit in Byzantium, and just change the religion, core provinces, starting army, etc, and just use say the Ukraine shield?(I just don't think I can edit in the Byzantine shield,I'm not good with graphics,I also don't want to download anything to do it.)

Go to your Europa Universalis/Scenarios folder and make copies of the "Grand Campaign.eug" and and the "1492.inc".

Rename your copies to "Byzans.eug" and "Byzans.inc" respectively.

Both files can be opened and edited with notepad, which is what we will do.

In Byzans.eug, change name= "The Age of Exploration" to name = "Byzantium", change all instances of the tag TUR to UKR (or at least the TUR = { into UKR = {) and finally change include = "scenarios\1492.inc" into include = "scenarios\Byzans.inc".

Then go to your Europa Universalis/config folder and make a backup of your "text.csv". Open your original "text.csv" and search and replace UKR;Ukraina;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X with UKR;Byzantium;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X

If you want the flag and shield to be correct anyway you can download the Byzantium shield set from Jeremy McGuinns page, here -> http://hem.bredband.net/b103277/graphics/jwm2.html (very small .zip file)
Rename his flags and shields, changing the tag BYZ to UKR.
Then the flag_UKR.bmp goes to the Europa Universalis/GFX/Map/Flags directory and the other three go to the Europa Universalis/GFX/Map/Shields - rename the original files by adding the word "backup" to their names first.

Now there is only one question remaining, how to edit your "Byzans.inc", and to know that we need to decide how large Byzans should be, should it be only the city/one province or should it replace the Ottomans completely? And which particular provinces should have religion changed? etc.

Right, downloaded the flag/shield file, but the computer on which I play EU I isn't working right now,so I'll have to hold off on the editing until I can get it working again.Your instructions do seem capable of working, and I thank you for them.I've so far only attempted minor editing of EU I(changing major nations, starting stats, core provinces, etc)so I think I could do the actual editing to make the province ownership to Byzantium,etc....

Great:)

Just remember, backups are your friend. And if you run into problems you can always come back and ask more :)

(And if notepad wants to change .eug and .inc to .txt files you'll have to change their extensions back to what they should be)

I dont know why some people arent able to save them as .eug or .inc. It's so easy. Everyone who is using computer MUST KNOW this!!! Dont know why somebody doesnt, (???????)

Simply write, then "save as"; Then in "Save as type:" choose "all files"(or whatever is it called in english) and save. But dont forget to name it like XXX.eug/.inc.
It's so easy....
If you leave choosen "Text documents(*.txt)", notepad will save it as XXX.inc.txt and windows will use the last suffix(dont know if this name fo it is right) to find out what file type is it...

I don't suffer from that problem, learned that when editing major nations in scenarios. My tactic is to change whatever needs changing, and then just go save,it doesn't alter the type of file, but saves the info I just added
