I have tried linking to a game using the IP and
people have tried to join one of my hosted games
but it allways says that we have incompatible versions.
With the same version, I can host and join other peoples
games over vnet. What is the problem.

DrVK aka HANNIBAL

There has been talk that one of the European versions being incompatible but more often that not its because someone changed their files and doesnt remember doing it. It only takes the slightist file change to bar entry.

In case it is a problem that the german edition doesnt work with
the Italian, English ect.. then I think this is a major showstopping bug. It is called Europa Universalis after all.:)
If planning a longterm campaign then I am at the
merci of vnet working all the time. Which is not allways the
case.

Does anyone know if this problem will be adressed in the next bug fix (1.06). I dont feel like having to buy the English/US edition just for
that.

That problem started to occure since 1.05 and was mentionned in the patch-describing that the program would control the files more throughoutly if their differ. So if you have modified files, in whatever way ( I think even the creation date could make a difference) then it couild be refused. (I`m not talking about cracked versions which obviously should be refused always ;))
A problem relative to that is that localized versions seem to have in basic modified files. Polish version of the game also has the original english files attached which should be placed instead of the polish files for multiplayer purposes. I don`t know how other versions managed that (UK does not have any problems obviously)
Anyway, if you have the wrong version error try first uninstalling (+ deletting all the files from the eu directory to be sure - the patch won`t overwrite them, so perhaps the original installer neither), reinstalling, patching and then check for directories as "original files", "db_org" or something and replace with those files the files in "db" and other directories. As I say I know only of the polish version that has that possibility anyway. In worst case the host can send all his files (especially db) to all other players - that shiould already help. If not then I don`t know it either...

Kasperus

I hope you dont mind but I have taken that and added it to my Newbie guide as its very good. I often get asked this question and havnt a clue but this would appear to the begining of the answer.

Well, I don`t mind. The language-problem was already mentionned in a readme in the Polish version - that`s why the extra files were provided (polish version is fully localized). I use now UK version though (as I have both UK and polish) but I could perhaps test it if it also works the way I describe it with the polish version (as all I told is still only theoretical).

Thanks Kasperus for the hint.

But if that is the workaround I think Paradox should fix it.
Changing files should not be a way out because if later on in the game, it hangs or becomes unstable no one knows where
the problem is and you are left stranded. I will try it but I think the German version does not have the original files.

If anyone knows anyone testing 1.06 please tell them to
report this problem!!!. I am not the only one who has it and
it makes MP through IP with different language versions impossible.....

Please someone report this I dont give a shit about bug #678 where byzansium gets 3 Ships instead of 5 in 1789 or whatever ... this bug is more important.... far more important
