Poland – From the Gates of KrAARkow to the Edge of the World
(1453 – ongoing)
The stage is set, for one of the most epic histories ever told. The playing field is Europe, Eastern Europe to be exact, but not limiting to that. Eventually the playing fields going to get a lot bigger, for you see –
Eh, get on with it. Seriously…
Right, yes sorry about that… And it is a playing field ripe for the taking. Our focus; the young budding Kingdom of Poland – What now?
It’s actually a Commonwealth of sorts. If you had been a better historian, you’d have noticed that. Its two countries ruled by one monarch with completely separate ruling class, and two separate armies –
Listen, who the hell is the narrator anyways?
Good; now piss off… Where was I…Oh right…
Our focus is the young budding Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania. Two separate nations, ruled by one common Monarch: King Kazimierz the Fifth. His rule started in the 1440’s –
1444 to be exact is when –
Ok, you’re really testing me now. Just piss off or I’ll do a god damn narrative on how Switzerland didn’t conquer a goddamn thing, and no one will hear this god damn story!
His rule started in 1444, but for the first part of King Kazimierz’s rule not much was done…Don’t even think about it…And so our history starts off on January 1st, 1453 the year of our Lord, 9 years after King Kazimierz the Fifth ascended to the throne.
It was a cold January morning in Krakow; the King had called his war council to its chamber and meeting room; The War Councils Chamber and Meeting Room. Inside the room, the King sat with no advisors. At all. At this time there were not enough ducats in the treasury to attract members to the court. Well they were there, but the king was just being a stingy old man.
So Kazimierz sat, maps of Europe sprawled out in front of him. To his east was Lithuania, he had yet to even go there in his 9 years on the throne. He thought it was quite a barbaric place; on its eastern borders lied the partially-retarded race of mountain apes classified by the greatest thinking minds in Poland as the Muscovites, with their strangely similar language, but awkwardly different customs. To its south were the barbaric Crimean Turks, not much spoken of. They regularly referred to themselves as moose-lambs, and Kazimierz felt this was really strange. As most Europeans had yet to even know what a moose was (Canada was not around yet), and surely lambs did not speak. This being as it were, he rarely felt the need to leave his castle in Krakow, and venture to Lithuania unless there was a really, really good reason. Like a brothel with fresh virgins, or some rebels to crush with uncompromising force, and unmatched disdain for human suffering.
To his West lie Bohemia, and their vassals the disgusting Silesia. These half-breeds (as he referred to them) were some sort of strange mix between a good Polish peasant and a drunk mountain ape. He was also informed that his family once owned land in Lausitz, how convenient; a reason for war. But these were secondary aims, to his north lied more important exploits; the Teutons. What the hell they were doing on the coast was beyond Kazimierz. And why the hell they called the town “Dancing” was even further beyond his grasp. To him it was always Gdansk, even if everyone there thought it was something else. Either way, a plan was set in motion in old Kazimierz’s mind, a plan to crush the Teutons.
A great army was amassed. To be correct, it was a great 3 armies; One that he would lead, dubbed “Pierwsza Armia Krowleska”. One to be led by his trusted childhood friend, Zygmunt Chometowski, dubbed “Druga Armia Krolewska”. And one to be led by a less then stellar general named Nol Eedar, dubbed just “3rd Army”.
Kazimierz would lead the cavalry corps. Their first move would be a thrust into Danzig, and then; feign into Warmia to cut off any retreating Teuton scum. Once this was achieved, the armies of Chometowski (whom Kazimierz dubbed “homie”), and Eedar (whom Kazimierz dubbed “you goddamned moron”) would march into Danzig and Warmia, besiege the cities, and burn everyone inside to a smoking pile of ash. From there the cavalry would ride forth into Oustprussen, Memel, and Kurland, doing battle with any resistance it found on the way. The other two armies would follow in its wake and capture the cities on the way…
next one will have proper screens of everything going on. Here is the set up, and teaser. I've about 14 or 15 years of play time to write up, and it should be good!
