I often quit games of HoI pretty early, once the outcome is obvious, so it took me a while to figure this out. But my saved games always crash, if they are saved games somewhat in to the war when lots of units exist and lots of changes have happened. If I save a game early, like in 38 or 39, I can continue it, but any saved games that are later like 41 or later always crash within a few months of continuing.

It may also just be that the game always crashes on my computer in later years, it isn't necessarily the save game since I think I've only made it past 43 once since I got HoI 2.

I have three saved games that always crash if I try to continue them if any devs want them. My computer is anAthalon K7 1.4 with 512 mem and I still use Win98 SE.
 
If these games were started with the 1.2 patch installed, then follow the sticky thread procedure on reporting bugs.
If they were not started under 1.2 then please upgrade to 1.2
 
They were all started with 1.2, I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing again for 1.2 because I had noticed that games crashed when they got far alone before, too. I have a new one now, I tried using Argentina hoping I could get farther with a smaller country but it crashes every time Itally offers me a bunch of tech in Jan. 1941 while I own most of the continent and am taking Brazil. So even using a smaller country didn't solve it, but I did join the Axis a few months before the crash. I have this save file now, too.

I will read about how to report this, because I'd like for this game to work. I don't play many anymore and this is one of the few I like to mess with.

Same Thing With Me

I'm experiencing the same symptoms. Game is crashing in March 1942. I'm playing with v1.02 (that's 1.2, right?) installed on a fresh installation of HOI2 (i.e., no 1.01 patch). I will email the saved game to the indicated address. The crash occurs within a day of the saved date.
