hmm...that might be fun.

I guess yui could always vassalise ypurself to some mighty horsenomads coming from the east.

And as kings cannot be vassals, and as such as a vassal you couldnt be king.. but a duke ;)

Edward VIII anybody?

Duke of Windsor? or someone else?

Edward VIII was born about 400 years after the period of this game, and he abdicated his throne. I doubt that'll be an option, but it would make it that much more interesting.

OTOH, weren't there many petty kings? I'd certainly like to be able to keep my dynasty alive through many tough times, and I hope it will be possible to be demoted and yet continue playing. I can see circumstances in which it might be the best move: offer to become a vassal of a powerful King in return for his protection. Better to survive as Duke than die a King.

My guess is that generally we'll just become "king" of some one province burg, rather than Duke, but I'd like to see both.

I don't think that's right. As far as I can tell there are only certain "kingdoms" and there can be only one "king" each (although many can have a claim to the throne). If you're reduced to a one province area, you'll only be a count or a duke.

I think the result of the Treaty of Troyes was similar, with the King of France abdicating in favour of the victorious invader (Henry V of England) and disinheriting his son, the Dauphin, who remained a ruler of the Dauphinate.

Not exactly. Charles VI de Valois, King of France, reign on its kingdom until its death. However, he adopted Henry V of Lancaster like his son while repudiating his own son, the future Charles VII. The lawyers of this time did not fail to recall that the procedure was illegal.

Ahh, sounds good. Thanks for the info.

Here's a question I do not believe has been posted. Can you be king of more than one realm? Say you are king of X and inherit the kingdom of Y. Will you now be King of X and Y or just have Y assimilated into an enlarged X'sh kingdom?

Yes. Read the English AAR.

Yes, it is possible. Needless to say, this doesn't exactly help your game score... ;)

(Edit - meaning "yes" in reference to the original question)

True, but sometimes disasters lead to the most fun in terms of gameplay.

Thanks for confirming this.

I agree, I love playing the underdog...just not in multiplayer =-P

Absolutely my opinion. I never played a major power (ok I played also sweden) in EU or EU II, Brandenburg was always the greatest pleasure, har har. I guess I´ll play as Holy Roman Emperor in CK sometimes...heck...many times :D , but starting as a minor duke and become emperor should be more fun. I wonder if my dukes get some good women...that would be something new ;) , do I really have to marry???Noooooo :D
