I realise i've been posting a lot of thread's lately (this is my 5th this past week), but i've been really curious about other people's opinions, and I believe in an active forum.

So, my favourite armoured division is the Guards Armoured (British bias of mine), where you have either the Cromwell or the Sherman V, where i've chosen the Cromwell (British Division, British Tanks). Although I play German Panzer Divisions more, the 9th panzer most recently, where I've chosen the Panzer IV J for it's price (and turret traverse doesn't mean much at range when the whole tank adjusts).

But i'm wondering what other people think, what do you take and why? Also, do you have any personal grievances with some of these tanks? (Balance-wise)

P.S This includes the Panther, but be reasonable about it, obviously it outperforms the rest but is significantly more expensive and less available in numbers.

Panthers aside, the M4A3 76 mm that comes vetted in the 3rd armored is nice for its price and availabillity. Even the M4A1 is a favorite in phase A, excellent anti personnel stats and decent armor for mere 130p, never liked the brittish meds, the challenger i find particularly lackluster for a whopping 180p

The M4A3(76)W for sure. I also like to use the Sherman 75s so long as they are cost-effective (not over $130).

You must be confusing it with something else. The Challenger only costs $150, so it's extremely cost-effective for what it does.

Ah i never play these decks because i dislike the tanks so much, maybe scots ocasionally. still 150 is wasted for tank that i rarely see perform. even the pz IV J with shorter range are more effective imo. But then again this is my personal experience, maybe just unlucky/bad micro.

Overall, and this is partially just because I like Poland a lot, the Cromwell V and the Sherman III DOW are the two mediums that most immediately pop to mind. More broadly, though...

Tank-tab favorites in the 90-150 points range:

-Ram II (Phase A command tank with AP 11 and AV 12)
-Cromwell V / CMD Cromwell IV (affordable but effective, plus the CMD has command)
-M4A3(75)W (Hard to argue with that cost effectiveness...)
-Sherman IIIs with command (Price tag looks bad vs the 75W, but it's a solid tank with a command aura and 2-per-card)
-Panzer B2 (decent stats for phase A and it has an anti-infantry cannon)
-The PZG's Stug 3 (great stats for phase A and elite; the other Stug 3's suck because it's not an appealing value once phase B rolls around)
-Pretty much any phase A Panzer 3 (again, good stats for phase A, plus affordable, plus they're either vetted or command)

Other Tank-tab entries of note, ignoring any pretense of "medium"-hood:

-Stuart V DOW / Char CMD M3A3 (it's like a Honey, but 10 points cheaper and with a command aura)
-Pretty much any non-Pz4 Jugend or Lehr tank (all extremely well armored for their phases, usually with good vet as well)
-Panther G (brutal and well armored)
-Konigstiger (Q-move to win, baby!)
-CMD Churchill VII (beefy armor and a command aura)

Also, honorary mention to the Crocodile, which doesn't make the cut because it's SUP tab but is basically a Churchill VII with a flamethrower instead of a commander.

Yeah, I kind of dislike the Challenger, Firefly, and 76(W). You look at the gun and go "that's a great tank!", but the things you really need that gun for will still trade well with you because they'll have superior AP+FAV. You're tossing a lot of points into a comparably lightly-armored platform, but not getting a ton of extra capability over a unit with a weaker gun.

In most situations, I'd rather rely on AT guns to threaten heavy armor and cheaper tanks like the Cromwell V and the various accuracy 5, 1000m shermans to deal with everything lighter.

i mostly agree but the m4a3 is still good, and with the 3rd armored phase C economy you can put them en masse with 2 star, they will work even better with a jumbo in the front. Its no good on its own or one on one. But its not made for that either :)

It's probably my favorite (least disfavored?) of the three, at least. I definitely buy them when I've got a deck that has them, maybe just a bit more grudgingly than I would one of my favorite tanks. ;)

Also, they're 1-star, not 2-star, for both the 3rd and 4th.

The maneuverability of the challenger is its biggest downfall. Pretty much have to use it as a sniper.

A phase Cromwell MkVII for Guards armored.

Several of the Axis divisions lack the Anti Tank penetration capability to kill this tank at range and those that do have it in tiny quantity, and with the Cromwell Mk VI as support it can overcome most of the light AT on the field for nice early advance's.

Of course this won't work on the SS divisions or anybody who can field a PaK40, but I'm still astonished to this point that I come across Axis players who deploy nothing but Pak38's to meet the Guards.
