I have downloaded the latest magellan tools and read this guide...

http://www.fiberinternet.dk/alexander/victoria flag directory.htm

but I can't create a new eu2map file.

- enter this command: mextract.exe myMap.eu2map
(this will create a file called myMap.eu2map which will contain all of your information)

When I try to mextract (mextract.exe Mymap.eu2map) a message pops up and tells me that windows can't find mextract.exe.

What to do?

Windows can't find the mextract.exe, because in the directory you're currently in the mextract.exe simply isn't. So before writing the mextract.exe command, go to the directory, where the mextract.exe file is located. ;)

I feel bad about forgetting about your problem.. :) When I'm done with working on the AU map I'll check your commands again. But if you still got the eu2map file. Try opening it with mview and see how many layers you can see. (In the upper right side you'll see numbers which are layers) Are there 1 or 3 available?

1 layer.

Hmm I'll make a Vanilla map in eu2map format and send it to you tomorrow. Then you can try to import you piece to that. ;)

righty-o. :)

Aye.

Hello. I am also having a problem with this file. When I click on anything except the colour thing, it does not do anything... maybe I don't even have the right file!? I'm very confused

They are command line tools. So don't click on them, but open new command line and lunch them from it ;)

Uh, can you explain that for the more computer illiterate? What is a "command line tool" and how do I "open" a "new" one??

If you have Windows XP, you'll find it here:
Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> Command line
or
Start -> Launch ... -> (write cmd in the dialog box and click OK)

You should see something like this:
cmdline1.png

Now the basics you'll need:
- in the beginning of the line with cursor is your CURRENT location (in the screen above I am on path "C:\Documents and Settings\Petr.DRAGON.000\")

- command cd .. moves you one level up
cmdline2.png

- command cd name_of_folder moves you into that folder
cmdline3.png

- command dir lists you all the folders and files in your CURRENT location
cmdline4.png

Use the "cd" commands to get to the directory, where you have the magellan's tools. Then you can launch the magellan's tools ;)
If you write after the name of tool an atribute /help (like I did for mextract on the picture below), you'll get help for usage of that tool:
cmdline5.png

The line of usage looks a bit confusing at the first look:
MEXTRACT <destination[.eu2map]> [/D:directory] [/C] [/O] [/1|/2|/3]
So how to understand it:
- MEXTRACT is the name of program, so you must write it if you want launch it
- what is in these brackets <> is mandatory to use
- what is in these brackets [] is voluntary to use
- if something is writen like this A|B , then it means A or B
So after reading the usage line I know that I must write at least:
mextract myFirstMap.eu2map
But I can use some of the extra parameters if I need, so I may end for example with this:
mextract myFirstMap.eu2map /D:"C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2\map" /O /3

I hope it will help you ;)

Now it's me having problems with Magellan :(
I imported the map from PSD into eu2map.
Here mstats works well.
I exported a piece from eu2map into PSD and removed one ID (repainted one ID by another ID already present in the same sector). The removed ID was removed just from one sector and it is still present in other sectors, so the row of ID numbers is unbroken.
Then I imported the modified piece back into Eu2Map.
Tried mstats, but it showed warning: "The file does not contain idgrid info".
It started automatically calculating it from IDMap, but immediatelly ended with an error "region size overflow"!

Did somebody encounter something similar?
For me it was already strange, that idgrid info was missing
