I am sorry if I don´t use my English right, I am German, but I will try to describe my problem.
After the installation the computer tells me that he needs a special version of DirectX, but I don´t need to get it because there is one that is newer. (I don´t know if this is the key but I should tell this anyway I think.)
If I want to start the game, I only see a black screen and the taskline (is this right? I meen the line with the start button and the simbols on the right). When I close it, the Bink-Player starts and shows the video which should be at the beginning. Then it closes.
I think, this is the important thing, because in the readme I read, that the Bink-Player isn´t compatible to Win XP and some friends of me told that to me, too.
So: How can I start the game?

I suspect you have EU3, not EU2, is that right? If so please register your game here by clicking on the My Games/Registrations link above. Then you can see and post in the EU3 Tech Support forum, where this thread belongs. Thanks.

Eu2

The game isn´t EU3.
It only could be that it is EU1 although it is called "Europa Universalis 2" on my desktop, because it is from a friend´s disc and he perhaps gave me the wrong one. But he hasn´t got EU3.

There is no special version of DirectX needed for EU1 or EU2, what comes with any recent version of Windows should work fine. Can you post the exact message you are getting please?

Also, you might try renaming the EU2/AVI directory to anything else to stop the binkplayer problem.
