OK, I've been reading all the posts on what to do to get MP to work. Here's what happening.

Either I host, or my friend hosts. When we type in the IP address, it says 'no game found at IP address' (or something really close to that). Now, I figured "ahha! I need to do port forwarding as all the messages herein suggest."

So I login to my modem, and try to figure out how to do that. Alas, that is not an option. I use a Siemens SpeedStream 4100.

I call up tech support and say "wtf?". They say my modem doesn't let me set up port forwarding because it is automatic - it is just a modem to translate from my ethernet connection to the dsl line. Supposedly it automatically port forwards everything. (anyone know better?)

So I say, "hmmm". I turn off my firewall entirely. I turn off my anti-virus entirely. I try to connect again. Get the same message. My friend tries to connect to me (he was able to get port forwarding done per all the messages on this forum). Get the same message.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Do you have a router? Does your Internet provider use some sort of IP altering system? Check your IP by typing ipconfig in the command prompt; if the IP is of format 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x then you either have a router (which you have to config) or your net-access (university, company etc?) provider uses an IP-altering system (in which case you need to change the access provider if you want to play Paradox games in MP).

This is the one that your ISP provided you with, right? Then you might have to buy a separate router(that can be configured fairly easy) and use your modem in bridged mode.

My provider uses NAT, and I can play setting up my network as described in my response to Benjamin.

No. Just the DSL modem (Siemens SpeedStream 4100).

Uhm... no idea. When talking to them, they say it should work fine.

ipconfig gives me a nice IP of 68.x.x.x, nothing like a router.

I'm using SBC-Yahoo (now AT&T) DSL. I can't find anywhere in documentation or their website that they use IP-altering in anyway. Surely there are other people in USA using this service who can help. Anyone?

A Similar Question

I have a slightly different setup. I have a LAN wherein both machines can play CK when I designate LAN as the multiplay option. I would like both machines to play against a third person, but I get similar errors as listed above.
Is it possible to multi-play with a third person with my setup either through Vnet or direct IP?
Having read the info on the Port Forward page, I am concerned that the 2 machines on the LAN would become conflicted.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks
