I guess this is the wrong place to say it but here it goes.
When I have patch 1.03b installed every time I tries to start the game it asked for "db/province.csv" I think it was and another file and then a big sign comes up saying that the game has caused a failure in Kernel and sends me back to the desktop.
The patch works when I have the VIP installed but other things makes the patch worthless. Is there anything I can do or is it something for the Pros to fix?

Not entirely sure I understand.
If you have just 1.03B installed and no mods then the game will not work, but if you install VIP then it will?

Yes, correct.

I find that difficult to concieve. Unless something went wrong with the install of the patch and the VIP replaces the file that was corrupted.

I would suggest removing the game completely and reinstall.

I have tried that. But I have noticed that several files have been added in the DB directory after installing the VIP. Its riddclus that a patch needs files that isn't in the game from the start or has been added before the patch.
Oh well thanks anyway! You dont have to mind this anymore.
I hope that 1.04 will fix my problems or I have to give up on the game complety.

Even so, you have produced a situation which, for all intends and purposes, shouldn't have happened.

db\province.csv contains the core information about each and every province in the game. Things like x,y coordinates where improvement animations, army animations, port symbols, etc. are to be painted on the map.

The game's initialisation is quite correct. You cannot start the game with this crucial info missing. However, since it is so crucial, the CD installer will automatically place it on your hard drive. An official patch will replace it, if the patch contains updated info for this file. But a patch will never remove it.

Now for the part that makes this problem so hard to understand. The 1.03b download doesn't contain a province.csv file, so unzipping it to 'upgrade' your 1.03 to 1.03b shouldn't have touched this particular file. If it is indeed missing from your game's installation when going from 1.03 to 1.03b, then it either has been renamed, was deleted manually, or was deleted by a third party program.

Did you uninstall VIP before getting this? VIP seems to remove province.csv when being uninstalled. And unitnames.csv, too. Damn. :) And country.csv and revolt.txt. I'm going to have a word with the guys in VIP, most careless. ;)

Mammut,
Any of this clear things up for you?

First JPD:
The province file isn't in the DB directory before I have installed VIP 1.02 and Im not modding around with the game on my own. And the game seem to work very fine without the files. strange...

Now Gwalcmai:
I even tried with removing the game completly from the hard drive the I only installed the game and the official patches in the correct order but it simply said failure.

And finally Castellon:
well...no actally, just that is something I can't fix and just hope that the next official patch works when I have removed the VIP (Im not that fond of it). But thanks anyway for your time and effort!!!! A gold star for all of you and big one for you Castellon ;)

Okay lets make sure we get rid of everything.
Use the uninstall feature, then delete all folders acciated with VIC and any mods that you have Downloaded or installed.
Follow these instructions to remove the registry entries and install shield info.

Then defrag your drive.

Then reboot and install only the version from the CD.

Does this work?

I had the same problem after that.

You said before that "The province file isn't in the DB directory before I have installed VIP 1.02 and Im not modding around with the game on my own. And the game seem to work very fine without the files. strange"

So now you are saying that it is not the case.

remember I asked you to just install the original version from the CD (NO patches).

Also what publisher version of the game do you have, Thier logo will be on the CD.

Sorry I not very good at reding from internet pages.
I haven't tried exactly that but I guess that the game would work fine.

Please do try that.
Also please answer my question about the publisher.

It's Pan Vision.

And when you tried what I suggested above what happened?

It worked as it should, 1.03b worked. Thank for the help and your patince with me.
When I tried previously with deleting the directry and reinstalling I must have missed deleting at some place.
How improtant is it to run scandisk and defrag after deleting a game?

For scandisk, it really is upto you. On my system, the only times scandisk runs are when I (re)install my Windows OS as part of the normal setup, or I had to hard reset my system. At that point, it's part of the normal boot sequence of Windows.

As for defrag. I have never ran that in all the years my system is operational (which is roughly 2.5 years right now). My hdd and processor are fast enough to make the performance hit for being fragmented almost unnoticable. ;)

Basically run them if you are having problems.

A question, not a problem.

Can I use english version of 1.03B to update my italian ver of Victoria, until it'll be avaliable the right one?

If it will only change the language from italian to english probably I could better understand the descriptions contained in the game, because italian translation from english is really awful!
