ok, ok eu runs stable again, that´s good. but what did you say: 'AI will now use a bit more cavalry' ... no, it builds only cavalry and art! don´t you check your patches at least once? with that ai builds 1.05 is completely useless!(if needed i can immediately send you a savegame). this won´t go unremarked by other players and the negative impression of eu in the german forum will even get stronger! i love this game, but your policy to put out one patch after the other without testing does no good to this game!!!!

i like to add the current army stength of russia in my actual gc:
1238 inf, 198458 cav, 236 art and they probably lost about 80-100000 cav in the current war aganinst sweden (me). the inf is the rest of the pre 1.05 russian army!

PLEASE give the poor man a break... You can't seriously ask Paradox to betatest his patches for a few weeks before he releases them...
You've got to see things from their side too.... If you ask me EU version 1.0-1.5 is rock solid hasn't crashed once...assuming you have the same configuration as me that is :) Have you tested 1.05 properly yourself ?
Have you tried the new patch with a new GC, a new Scenario other than the GC, old savegame etc etc....
So tell them of problems in a normal way, not yell at them for giving extremely good support!

yes, your are right, cobos. the support here is near perfect. i´m just disappointed. and what i was willing to say is, that it is not favourable for the image of eu, if a new patch only leads to other problems. ok, sorry to johan, greven, but it really gets hard for hartmann et al. to calm down the embarassed players of eu in the german forum. and a patch like 1.05 doesn´t make it easier.

You are of course right in that, and I DO realise that the game might be very unstable on some configurations...
I'm a bit curious if anyone knows why the game crashes and if anyone has tried to check the setups of the ones with the worst problems ?
Is it mainly W98 that has it ? Those with little RAM ? Some chipset it reacts to ? A badly configured AGP card ?

Maybe we should try to list configurations here on the boards or send them to Johan so someone can collect the data and try to draw some conclusions ?

Just brainstorming here...

PS: Max, it might have sounded like I slammed you, that was not my intention, and I'm sorry for that.

hi cobos,
your word is my command. i checked the builds of the ai in a new gc: starting as france i declared war on spain, waited for the ai to start building troops and then switched sides. guess what the ai built? 2000 inf 18000 cav 80 art (needed some more changing sides to check it out). the same was done for france, england, austria, turkey, russia and polonia. same result, except for england.
england: 12000 inf 4000 cav (quite reasonable)
france: 18000 inf 18000 cav 100 art
russia 0 inf 24000 cav
turkey: 0 inf 8000 cav 80 art (checked only 1 time)
polonia: 0 inf 12000 cav 50 art (checked only 1 time)

well, maybe this is a viable army composition in the first years to defeat enemy armies, yet the ai will surely take no fortress and will be badly beaten, if the firepower of the players inf-armies rises, don´t you agree?

regarding the crashes, perhaps you should start a topic and collect the various (crash-) configurations...

Then it does seem like Johan should look into this ASAP :)
If someone else could take the time to check the army settings out I suppose Johan would be glad...
I don't have time myself... :(

Same unfortunately goes for collecting setups ... After all my vacation starts tomorrow and I would like to finally be able to play the game :) more than a few hours each night :)

I think I know, what the problem is:

The AI tries to reach the new inf/cav/art 'balance' programmed in 1.05. So countries like Poland and Turkey, which have comparedly little cavalery in the beginning, will build only cav until the 'balance' is reached.

I've seen the same with papal states and Savoy, besieging Milano with 99 guns, 23 000 horsemen and 2000 infantry...

... and the 'balance' seems to refer only to the totals of the different kinds of troops. So, when having build masses of cav to reach the balance, these will be employed as ONE army instead of distributing those troops to already existing armies.

Hartmann

if only the balance had been changed, everything would be alright. but as you can see in the example of the russian army strength, it is completely unbalanced, and the ai continues to solely build cavalry and artillery

EU hasn't always be so bug-free :)

Indeed. There is much complaining about the stupid AI, but the AI has learned much since then. If the AI gets smarter at this speed, in EUIII it will probably have invented nucleair weapons and win every war against humans :D
