Ok, so I decided to start playing HoI again a few days ago, I decided I'd give France a go with the new patch [er, it's new to me at least] [Normal/Furious] and I ended up making Italy a puppet [although I really wanted to annex them... guess there was a province in Africa that had a victory point on it or something] anyhoo I ended up stomping Germany. Extremely easily, I looked around a bit and I see this is no big surprise, although it has deflated my ego some  Then, I annexed it. [as well as the entire Balkans] I noticed a small bug, although I, as France could for some reason liberate Vichy from myself, i couldn't liberate Germany  I didn't really want a big border with the soviets, but o-well.

Now for the big bug. I decided that since I am the big-bad blue annexing machine, that I would give Spain [it's 43 now] a big whomping, and expand the French Empire  This is the problem here, I declare war and my IC production for everything goes to ZERO; consumer goods- zero, Industrial production - zero, research - 0. Also when I load my saved games, I notice my IC has a tendency to change dramatically each time I load it. Usually it look s ok until I try to give Spain the ass-kicking it needs.

There was a few other oddities I noticed, one was that I couldn't liberate Czechoslovakia, only Slovakia, and upon doing that, the game CTD, consistently second I found that I could liberate "Russia" from a few of the old Polish and German provinces. who put regular Russia in there... what is the use?

I just threw a few basics in..
1) u must have got a dissent hit when u DoW (since u are democrat), right? That lower total IC for sure..
2) there is this enoying negative resource bug, but that only trigger when u take their capital. Minors often run out of resources and u enherrit their lack of it. I'm sure u can search some info on the bug in Forum.

As for liberating, i haven't even tried liberate Germany. From who should u liberate it. And Germany own Check from a early (Munich) event. You didn't tell if Germany and SU agreed in the MR pact event. Might explain some strange things if u try to liberate those prov that goes to SU.

H'okey, a while ago I looked again, and it was indeed from a massive 80% dissent level, that immediately occurred upon declaration of war against Spain, I hadn't noticed it before, because I had made sure that my dissent stayed to a minimum, I know that France always seemed to have some problems with it... What I don't understand is why my dissent jumped to 80, when I had over an 80% war entry level for them... was it caused by the non-French people under my thumb?

Also, I was able to create Czechoslovakia, when I created Yugoslavia first, but before that I was only able to make Slovakia. Under no method was I able to create Germany however. Guess I'm stuck with them being a part of France forever :p

Note that while I am a member of the Allies in this game, I am extreme fascist ;) but for some reason I count as "centrist" still, why is that, and how can I change it to "hard-core fascist" for France. Mostly I wanted to note that I couldn't create Germany out of the lands that I owned, even though I annexed Germany no differently then I annexed Hungary or Rumania.

Perhaps I can't liberate it because it was a "player" nation.

What do you mean by player nation? All nations are playable. BTW what version do you have? If you have 1.06 and you beat Germany with France only a day after getting the game, then you must be some kind of god or something.

If you are Centrist, you are a democracy. That's why you had the massive dissent hit when DoW Republic Spain which was probably also a democracy. Downloaded the updated manual found in a sticky and read the Dissent section for more info on this.

The triangular graphic in the Diplomatic menu has nothing directly to do with your type of government. Unfortunately the game stupidly sets up three sub headings to describe the government while neglecting the central heading. Centrist, Reformed-Socialist, and Liberal-Conservative are all democratic govt. None of them read Democratic though they should. The present set up is needlessly confusing. The updated manual has a section on this (search for Centrist to find it).

Notice when you start a game, there are other flags outside your own nations, that are on the scenario selection screen, I'm talking about those nations. When you go to load a saved game, you can always change the nation you are playing as, you cannot however play as one of the nations that are "player nations" whose flags sit next to your own player slot.

Notice when I made this thread, I said I was getting back into the game. I've had this game for a few years, but I typically only played a few games every couple of months. As far as the basics of the game, economics and combat; I think they are pretty simple, particularly combat, because the game's military AI is pathetic, to say the least, so using anything anywhere, and one can still defeat “mighty” Germany with little effort.

What I didn't know, this whole time I've owned this, is that the big triangle thingi sitting there, that shows my "disposition" is a waste of time, this whole time I’ve had this game, and I thought it was a direct reflection on how my government acts, and it doesn't do a damn thing  This whole time, I thought seeing my government move towards fascism on the triangle, would make me fascist, with all it’s warring perks. Oh well :(

Hopefully some of these mods can improve things, especially the friggen AI

Actually you can change your nation to one of the major powers after you've started a game. I think its a bug or something, but sometimes when I keep clicking on different save files it removes the "lock" on the other major powers were darkened before. Or maybe it's just me........

No, you can easily, for that, in the first screen, go into Multiplayer, change your name, then go back to single player and select a savegame. You'll then be able to pick any of the countries, including the 8 ones preselected.
