I've had problems with EUII running extremely slow and jerky ever since the first patch came out. Turns out that Hitachi DVD drives are incompatible with the security system the game uses.

If you have a Hitachi DVD drive I would suggest buying a standard CDROM drive because this will be a problem with any game running this security system (such as Neverwinter Nights).

Hope this helps someone.

Not quite correct. The security system is only applied on start up, If you get the game started then it should run OK as it doesnt check again until you next start it up.
Running slow and jerky is usually down to one of 2 things:-

1. You *must* close all aplications (Including anti virus) running in the background. If you do not know how to do this then post here.

2. Lack of memory. 128 mb is really the minimum and 256 would be great. At less than 128 (and even with 128 depending on the machine) a lot of the game is run from swap files on your HDD. This is a lot slower than running the game from memory. If your HDD light is almost constantly on when running the game then Memory is your problem.

I'm running it on a PIII 600 with 300+mb of RAM and a 64mb geforce2 card. I tried killing all applications, defragging the hard drive, uninstall/reinstall and tweaking all the DirectX acceleration settings I could think of, and the game still played like a slideshow.

After noticing this problem with another game, I downloaded and applied a *fix* and the game sped up considerably. When this worked I went out and got a new CDROM drive, no more problems.
