Hello!

am i the onlyone having problems with the new nvidia Forceware 56.72?

The game freezes my hole computer, and im forced to reboot.

I have tried Victoria 1.00, 1.03 and 1.03b, they all freeze.

the only way to make it work again is to restore my comp. to a date before the upgrade of the drivers. And reinstall Victoria.

By the way This is the best game!

"Free Gothia from the kingdom of Sweden" :)

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

I have a couple of questions.

1) What NVidia video chip do you use?
2) When exactly does it freeze? During gameplay or during startup/initialisation.
3) What is your computer hardware, specifically the processor and the amount of RAM.

I ask this, because I use a GeForce 4 Ti4200 with those same forceware drivers, and don't have any problems.

Hey guys!

The game freezes on starup after the intro movies.

AMD 1,33Ghz
384mb Ram
Maxtor 200gb HD
At what stage does it freeze up. What does it say near the bottom of the loading screen?

My guess right now is a freeze during the graphics initialisation. If that's the case, then you are most likely hit with the 'infinite loop' problem, and are probably using a VIA chipset.

In the FAQ are some pointers regarding the inifinite loop, and how to sidestep it on a system using a VIA chipset.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Please see my post above yours.

Hello!

Yes i tried that.

And this time i couldn't complete the test.

The computer freezed when testing directdraw, the bouncing ball test in fullscreen.

I have tried with forceware 56.64, but it doesn't do any good, i've reinstalled windows xp. but that didn't help.
Could my craphicard be broken maybe or just not connected propably...

Well it definately has nothing to do with the game. :)

Could be bad install of Direct X, Bad install of Video drivers, or something wrong with the graphics card.

If your computer freezes up during the DirectDraw test, then it's definately the old VIA chipset infinite loop problem. Which, basically, means that you have to get rid of the VIA 4in1 chipset drivers.

If you were running anything upto and including Win2K, that would not present any problems, as a simple reinstall of windows and then NOT installing the motherboard drivers would do the trick. Unfortunately, you are running WinXP, where these buggy drivers come standard.

Either downgrade to Win2K, or try to find a way to obtain a non-VIA AGP driver for your motherboard/chipset.

Yepp i know that now, but i wasent sure cause all my other games worked just fine. So i tought it was just Victoria that was the problem.

Thanks for your help!

No Problem, take it to where you bought it and point out that ity cannot pass that test and ask them to fix it. See what they come up with. :)

directx

I did a directx(9.0b) test again.

And now it freezes at both the directdraw(fullscreen)
and the direct3d test to.

but my other games work fine, atleast those that are directx9 comp.

so if im have the infinite loop problem, where could i find other drivers that via?
i don't feal like downgrading to win2k, since i haven't had this prob before with my comp.

Thanks for all your answers.

Try turning the acceleration of the video card down one notch at a time and see if you can get it to pass the test or the game to load.

Hey again!

Looks like my problems are solved!

I downloaded Rivatuner and made som changes to pci texture memory
and some other changes to the agp port and now Victoria is working again!
Ohhhhhh im so happy!
Back to empirebuilding at it's best! :)

I want to thank both Castellon and jpd for help on pionting to what the problem was! and for making this the best support forum for a game that i've ever seen.

So Happy you posted it twice. :D
Don't worry I deleted the second one, must have been a glitch in the forum.:)

Welcome and thank-you.
