So I loaded up the game and began playing when a problem cropped up immediately. The screen flickers many, many times per minute; so much that it's quite distracting. I checked the posted self-help suggestions and looked up what I could but had no success. NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 card, DirectX 9.0c, and the main driver is nv4.disp.dll. Running a DirectX diagnostics didn't help, nor did turning off the Direct Draw hardware acceleration. And I have the 1.08 patch. I'm at a loss. Victoria has the same problem. Very limited computer skills. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You most likely have one or more programs running in the background that periodically tries to do somthing. That briefly switches focus from the game to the other program and back again. This, in turn, will produce flicker.

The most likely culprits usually turn out to be MusicMatch, MSN Messenger or an IRC chat program.

Check your task bar and system tray for any icons that represent these or similar programs. If you find them, simply close them before starting the game.

Have you ever in the past or present install music match?

Ctrl - Alt - del, then the process tab, then look for mm.exe select it the hit the end task button.
Should solve your problem.
But you will have to do it every time you want to play.

You could try uninstalling or removing it from your startup if you never use it.
