Hello its been awhile since ive had to write anything on the forums. But ive got two major problems with my new Rome game that i cant sort out. I expect this should be on the technical support section but i cant seem to find it?

The problem i have with the Rome game which ive just got today from Amazon UK. Is that when i install the game which seems to work alright, there is no sign of the checksum details of the initial game or the added patch showing in the bottom lefthand of the main menu.

The other main problem is that when you get into the list of the preset scenarios when you press on them the game often crashes back to desktop.

My computer is new and up to date with Vistas and the service pack, with 2 Gig Ram. Sorry if this is on the wrong site. If it is a technical problem can someone either help me or send me to the right site. I hope Amazon havent been given a load dodgy batch of games? Ive always enjoyed these games and i looked forward to this version and feel let down straightaway any help soon much appreciated thanks.

Hello thank you for your advice. But before i leave i must say strongly that it is in poor taste to put out a game that ive discovered has had a major problem with a lot of other players on the tech site. And you cannot find out about it till youve bought the game. Im afraid because of this, Paradox unless they come up with another patch to solve this scenario problem they have lost another potential buyer - its like Dreamcatchers Pax Romana all over again. It seems Rome has left a major curse on gaming, goodbye!!

whats your problem? i have vista and no issues with scenarios, go back with graphic drivers it maybe helps.

Hello i have Nvidia 8400GS, i have downloaded the latest drivers about last week, which is dated from 12/07. I have done everything sticky has mentioned including using the XP compatability mode. I am having the same problem all the time with the single preselect scenarios. Its a constant hit and miss affair to pick the right scenario before it crashes back to desktop. Yes it does work sometimes, but it makes you wonder what other problems you might expect while youve playing especially what ive seen on the tech site. If i had known about this before i might have been cautious about buying it. All i can say is you are fortunate not to have these problems. As i have seen on he tech site a lot seem to have the same problems, with the scenarios. Maybe they cant test every graphic card but there must be general consensus what most types are used, but im certainly not happy person, thank you.

It's a problem with Vista + newish nVidia cards it seems. Running the game in windowed mode solves the problem for now (as it says in the tech support forum). What I've been doing is selecting a scenario in windowed mode, saving game, and restarting in full screen. Not the best solution but it will work until a patch.

change fullscreen=yes to fullscreen=no in settings.txt (you might want to change the window resolution as well so nothing hangs outside your desktop)

As one of the people who had the misfortune of buying Crapcatcher's Pax Romana, I have to say EU Rome doesn't even come close to that buggy, messy, sloppily-programmed piece of garbage. And Paradox can be trusted to patch its games up to a playable level, whereas Dreamcatcher was esssentially a one-person company, and he claimed health problems as his excuse for not patching his game to something worth playing. It's years later and I still feel burned by that one.

Sorry to see you are having issues, but you can trust Paradox to set things right.

Yep Dreamcatcher is quite the company (lol). They made the Superpower (1 & 2) series (along with Golem Labs), a sort of modern day nation simulation. Each game received one patch. I played as Canada many times, and at least twice, I was invaded by - you guessed it - India. Wonderfully worked out game right there.

Moved to Technical Support.

Hello thanks for your replies. Just to say i have manage to get a game started using the first preset time period while i had the chance. But i still unable to see the latest patch details under the main menu screen. It looks like i have downloaded it properly because the latest patch details is on the readme file. But there is nothing showing on the menu page. Does it mean theres still a problem? Let me know soon thanks.

I have to say, Global Power (Superpower 1 here in the UK) is one of the most addictive games I've ever played. I bought the sequel, and despite some novel ideas (and a few very fun online games), it's bugged beyond repair. A big shame, I quite enjoyed it. :(
