Project Crypso

Welcome to my latest foray into the fantasy rpg genre. After the abrupt end to SOIAF, rl complications have mellowed and I am able to pursue my favourite hobby once again. The purpose of this thread is to gather players for a community effort to essentially build our own fantasy world before the game begins.

Through the reaches of time, the great continent Pangea stretched across the world of Crypso. Pangea was host to numerous races, each of whom had established great kingdoms and carved their own dominions from the varied landscapes of their world. Some stood at an apex of culture, pursuing peace, knowledge and art; while others lived by the sword, and greedily gathered resources and peoples under their control. It seemed that the many kingdoms that sprawled across Pangea were the masters of the world... Until the cataclysm came.

While the peoples busied themselves with the minutia of everyday life, and their rulers busied with governance and rivalries, the world seemed to awake with a furious anger. The oceans boiled, the land cracked letting in a fuming sea, and the mountains erupted with fiery magma. Cities, kingdoms, entire civilizations were gone to the unbridled fury of the world. Now, five hundred years later, the ancestral memory of the survivors' descendants runs deep with the terror that the cataclysm brought.

The once great continent of Pangea shattered, but a fragment of the landmass remains. Huddled unto the shrinking lands, the survivors struggle to rebuild their lost civilizations.

As far as mechanics go, I shall be using common sense and IC to determine order outcomes. There will be a stat system that players can use as an anchor of sorts for ICs and to attempt to improve upon. Rather then a currency, the game will have several resources that players harvest and trade with different effects.

For example, Iron will allow for better equipped armies,
Food for greater populations,
Precious metals to buy mercenaries,
lumber for building navies,
and stone for greater fortifications.

With finite resources in the world, players should be inclined to trade and wage conflict for dwindling resources. If this sound interesting to you, then I welcome you to begin drawing up a faction. You are free to create your own race and culture, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses, as well as a rich history crafted with cooperation from the community.

Although all regions above have been claimed, there is still an opportunity to play as an unlanded character.

I should point out that there are many that have been displaced from the worldwide disaster centuries ago. Displaced people have been forced into a nomadic life, wondering the wildlands of the world and risking trespass into held lands for the rich resources they offer. Those who miss out on a major region may join as a nomadic tribe, offering a rich history to entwine with the works of the other players. Nomads, though numerous, will not begin with an abundance of any resource, forced to gain resources through other means.

Players may also wish to join as a single adventure, party or mercenary company, though their effects on the world will be minimal.

I like the premise.

Here we have a rough map of Crypso, and the shattered remnants of Pangea. The land is divided into sub-regions numbered 1-10, which players may claim to establish their kingdom. Note that this is a rough and may change. Expect wildlands and badlands to be added in to act as a buffer between players and house NPCs that covet precious metals. Feel free to stake your claim for my approval.

As you can see, the map is largely blank. The geography of the land will be created by the respective player controlling the sub-region. Based on their wishes, I will add terrain that will influence resources and battles within each region. Keep in mind that the world is temperate, these lands sitting in the northern hemisphere, with cooler climes to the north, getting warmer to the south.

I'd like to claim sub-region 8.

Oooh. I'm interested. I would like to claim sub-region 3.

I call sub-region 9!
Just asking, but what type of fantasy will this be? High, low, no magic, lots of magic?

Stingrex, Galren and Livingstone, you may proceed with detailing the geography of your claimed regions. I will begin working on a geographic overlay to the map. Be specific as possible, detailing any lakes, rivers, terrain.

Claiming Region 5

10 please.

A map of the Campestribus. The Extramontis is in dark green, the Agustinus mountain range is in grey, and the Montealtis is in light green.

GEOGRAPHY OF THE CAMPESTRIBUS
In general, the entirety of the Campestribus is located directly south of the Aptor River and north of the Henrician Ocean. The main geographic areas of this region are the Extramontis and the Montealtis. The Extramontis is the northern area of the Campestribus, directly north of the rather low Agustinus mountain range. The area is generally flat, swampy, and has conditions similar to that of a low-lying swamp; warm and humid summers that accompany mild and dry winters. The main population of the area are native orcs to the region mockingly known as "Swampbellies" to humans and other species, as they often have a short and stout build that has adjusted and adapted to hundreds of years of staying rather idle and eating the closest food they could find, often in their direct or peripheral sight.

The Extramontis in of all its swampy glory

The Montealtis, however, is the exact opposite. Due to being on the southern tip of the entire continent, it is an extremely warm and tropical area that includes multiple rainforests across the southern coast. This is where the majority of humans reside; due to the warm climate, most humans here have olive skin and black hair.

One of the many coastlines of the Montealtis. (Don't pay attention to the cruise ship)

Behold, Campestribus...

Stingrex may begin detailing the political map of his region, including cities, towns, major roads, and points of interest. Don't overload the map please, just a handful please.
