Provencal predicament

Alright so it's 1467 I've already gained a foot holding in North Africa and i am at war with Siena and the pope to retake avingon from the pope I've been excommunicated for 3 years now and things are going well until burgundy declares war on France and they are allied with england and i am also allied to Austria and Spain (the latter of whom just got the Iberian weeding event) so what do i do

I take it you are playing as France?

To avoid getting excommunicated, you need to either A: Have a good enough relation with the Papal States that going to war and taking territory won't drop you to negative opinion with them (about +100 is usually safe), of simply become Papal Controller, or have good relations/alliance with someone who is.

Assuming you are France, and alliance with Spain and Austria should easily be able to hold off an attack from Burgundy and England. Just attack them as they are sieging your forts, for the most part.

But to answer how you should go around playing Provence, I'd tell you to not play it since it isn't that fun to me but putting aside my bias. I think you should focus on taking savoy or maybe calling Spain once you have enough favors to fight France, and take the coast line along with valuable Genoa provinces.

Edit: Like to mention I haven't played as Provence and closest countries I've played in that area are France and Milan, If you are going for the King Rene Achievement you can google guides for that. And if you just wanted to play Provence because of personal preference. There should be guides on how to avoid excommunication. You've honestly done well. With Austria and Castille you should be safe from any crazy wars.
