In what order do you build your province buildings? I always try to boost income first and build other improvements later, but I 'm not sure if this is the right way.
The same goes for research, I always try to research technologies that raise income first. Is there any way to improve or accellerate research, because it seems to take forever.

It depends on situation, but if required technologies are researched, I prefer improvements that give 1 gold per month. In other cases, I usually build improvements that accelerate research. Or Court of Justice, if there is Thieves Guild (or Smugglers Ring) in some province.

As a rule of thumb, a probability/speed of discovery and spread of technologies can be enhanced by building logistic infrastructure - Roadnets, Extensive Roadnets, Civilian Harbours, Naval Harbours and Grand Shipyards. In addition - School, Library and University are useful for discoveries. If you are short of money, try to build those improvements at least into your Capital province. From Cultural Advances, focus on Religious Flexibility and Thought (after you have gained in Schools level 2, later you can switch back to get University (level 4)) .

I try to have a Court and a Post Office in every province. Courts prevent thieves, posts let you control more provinces yourself, and both increase bergher loyalty which lets you jack up tolls.

After that I usually do income-increasing improvements, especially ones that reduce build-time, and castles.

BTW, roads are much more useful than you'd think The reduced marching isn't a huge deal, but reduced attrition is. Unpaid troops have high attrition, and roads reduce attrition. With roads and a complex road network in every province you'll be able to cut your army's pay to nothing as lonmg as they stay in your desmene.

Play around a bit. It's highly unlikely you'll lose a game because you screwed up your province build or technology. So feel free to mess around, eventually you'll figure out what is most useful
