No. If you're lucky, you get the random conversion event though, and if population is below 5000, you can send colonist there and convert it to your state religion. But mostly, religion is a fixed value.

Hail Robo,
A pop-up diologue box does happen.Unless you change it at the start of the game. The default for this message is to be in a pop-up box. In my England GC that I just finished up last night I had 4 provinces convert during the game-The four being in Scotland.

Not having got that far (very often)... what is the chance of conversion... automatic, or?

Hail Mr. Green,

Are you sure about that? Natives are Pagan , and therefore don't 'convert' the same as European religion provinces go.They simply go from Pagan to your religion after a level 7 colony is accomplished.

Hail SimonM,

Yep it's automatic. If you send a colonist into a province that has a population under 5000 they automaticly convert to your religion.

They alreday do at level 1.

'If you mean a pop-up for conversion events, there are pop-ups. The natives in a couple of my colonial provinces have converted and I was notified by message window ...'

No, I wasn't referring to the conversion _event_ (not interested since I haven't been playing with random events), I was referring to how provinces change religion over the course of the game (like from Catholic to Protestant). There is a popup for when a nation converts but not one for when a province converts (at least I don't recall seeing it as one of the configurable message settings).

If you send a colonist to a province with less than 5000 the province converts automatically so long as the colonisation succeeds. The classis case is Ireland, where England can quickly converty all the Catholics to Protestantism. If only it were so simple in reality....

Hail BiB,

You're right. Bad typo....meant Level 1 , was thinking Level 7

Hail Robo,

Like I said before. In my last GC I had 4 provinces in the former Scotland convert from Catholic to Protesant. All 4 times I had a message box pop-up to let me know.Maybe there isn't a message setting to change, maybe there is ..I don't know I haven't looked. But it does pop-up in my game.

I still don't think you understand what he is referring to. You DO get a pop-up for the religion EVENT. You DO NOT get pop-ups for the normal tendency of Catholic provinces to change to Protestant or Reformed over the natural course of history (after the Reformation).

Christopher

P.S. Unless I'm wrong. :)

Yes & No. All Protestant and Reformed provinses start out "under cover" as Catholic in 1492. However as soon as it is possible for them they take on their "true" religion.

ASAP is as soon as the reformation religios events happens, for which YOU DO get a popup.
I also suspect that noone would really like to suddenly get 50-100 popups for each and every province "changing" their religion at the same time ... =)
