So I started up a game as Prussia and played through to about 1847, at which point all hell was breaking loose. I had initially changed to a liberal party and focused on letting my Capitalists get rich and industrialize, and focus on the cultural Techs. This seems to have ticked off the majority of my population however, being moralistic conservatives who were not happy with the regular increase in pluralism. Then the Greek Liberal event thingy hit, and the Liberal Revolution hit all of Europe. I decided to scratch that game after I had mobilized all 24 Divisions and the entire country had revolt risk in the red.

Any pointers on Prussia?

I had a look at the VickyWiki guide to Prussia but it seems like a lot of the info there was salient to pre-Revolutions.

Prussia and the other German states can get a big militancy problem in the mid 1840s, which you compounded by changing parties. Pops hate it when you set a different party to rule.

I find I can keep militancy under control in Prussia by always keeping the party I start out with, max tariffs and once I have a fair amount of cash after a few years (but no later than 1840) set poor taxes to zero, and milddle taxes as well if I can afford it. Prussia is so rich that the capitalists will build railways even with tariffs set at 100%, provided rich taxes are zero. Also, never take pops out of coal mines or you will lose money. Prussia has the world's most lucrative coal mines.

Interesting. The strategy to succeed as U.S. : militarize. The strategy to succeed as Prussia : low taxes.

Next you guys are gonna tell me that the strategy as China is to sell tea or some crazy idea. :p

Should I DoW any of the German minors?

I noticed that Hannover lost its satellite status at one point in one game, and that several of Austria's Def Pacts with the smaller German states have exceptions on Prussia.

ADDIT: Okay so I'm getting the impression the number is not really viewable in game and you just sort of keep track in your head what it has added up to based on your actions?

Cool Thanks Snaake.

Where the heck is that Badboy score!? Is it in one of the ledgers?

F12 -> "badboy"

My suggestions for Prussia, is that even though it is super ahistorical, go for a Con-Mon asap, or at least some political freedoms that will make the Liberal Revolution null and void. Check VikiWiki. The German states can be incredibly annoying through the mid-1800's revolt wise. You could go for early wars taking out ther German minors, but that hurts your BB a lot, and tends to screw up the Three Hurrahs event chain a bit.

The UK and Hanover get events related to the rise of Queen Victoria. She wasn't allowed to be Queen in Hanover because of Sallic law forbidding the crown from being inherited by women, so that crown passed to her cousin. When this event chain fires off, Hanover becomes fully independent.

Funny thing, F1 gives me a window, but F12 does not seem to do anything. Ah well.

This fancy keyboard has some damn "F Lock" key over there.

ADDIT: so I think I'm ready to step up to the normal difficulty level. I've now played through to the 1880s as Prussia and the 1860s as U.S. and I feel like I have a handle on how the game works. In my most recent play as Prussia I got lucky and got the Conservative Empire event and that was after I had an early successful war against France in which I took Metz. Soon after the Conservative Empire unified Germany, both France and Russia DoWed me simultaneously and that was a bit white-knuckle. I actually had to give up Kattowitz to Russia in that one. By 1884 I was #1 in Prestigue (3K to UK's 2K), 1st in Industry (2.5K to about 1.7K UK), and 2nd in Military (273 or thereabouts to about 280).

However, that was with quite a few restarts after realizing what a boneheaded mistake various actions are in game.

I think I'll restart one with no restarts and have some ambitious goals. Maybe a goal to conquer all of Western Europe as Prussia (France, the Low Countries, Denmark, Switzerland)?
