The starting position is 1066 scenario - latest Beta patch, realm disruption events disabled. I am playing the Principality of Pskov. Yes, i mean principality. I have given the title, and control of Torzhok over to Pskov in the beginning from Novgorod. I consider this one of the prime starting positions in the game - the boost gives you enough land and wealth to have faster start, and there are possibilities in all directions:
easily conquered, but poor pagans to north,
wealthy but challenging pagans to west,
wealthy pagans and a Kingdom title to south,
and to east is Novgorod, one of the richest duchy in the game, which atleast in my games has tendency to break apart early on.
As a houserule, using brindfinder will cost 100 gold as expenses, given as gift to either the Pope or to the emperor of Byzantium, depending on situation. Save/Load is allowed, and most probably i will be using it a lot.
As already said in the topic, i will not be focusing heavily on creating story around the game, but i will prefer on letting images and comments show how the game progresses. I will be playing on easy/normal, as i dislike challenge on games i play for leisure, and i prefer not to be squashed early when making an AAR.
Use of "minimalist AAR" comes from other person in the forums, sorry but i dont remember your name anymore..
Domazhir of Pskov - 1066
Domazhir and his wife, Euphrosyne.
January 20, noble warrior arrives to Pskov, and is granted the status of Marshall.
Dec 22. A child named Bryachislav (4/6/6/5) was born.
Aug 16th, a war was declared against the Tribe of Estonians.
Nov 16. Estonians were conquered after humiliating defeat in battlefield, with two armies of similiar size I have no idea where they pulled 500 men in last second before start of battle and Estonians losing over twice the amount of men.
Jan 30, 1070. A second son was born, and named Rostislav.
However he died not long after birth.
Oct. 6, 1071 Daughter named Dobronega was born. (She was however probably a bastard, 4/0/3/8 coming from two parents that have natural diplomacy of 8 and 6.)
October, 1073. Vodi was conquered and added to Pskov. Not long after, Domazhir met a pretty wench near the battlefield, and as a result, a child declared to be Domazhir's appeared to the court.
December, same year. Another child appeared to the court not long after Domazhir went to wage war against Viborg, this time a legimate son, and he was named Yaroslav (4/6/4/3).
For five years nothing really happened, and Domazhir spent the time with he's wife and children, hoping to give as happy childhood as possible, but then:
May 15, 1079. Tribe of Karelia declared war against our vassal of Vodi, and we responded by calling our men to arms. After cruel battle with over thousand men dead, the tribe called off their attack and paid with all their money to gain a truce. Not long after, the tribesmen in Viborg started a rebellion, probably preferring Karelian control over Pskov's. The rebellion was quelled quickly.
1083: Note: I havent remarried Dom yet, and i dont think it would be necessary, there are already enough children and he is getting to such age(44) that he probably wont be getting more children.
Aug 1 1083: Estonians revolted because of religious reasons, and though they were converted by force, the revolt continued.
March 1084: Bryachislav has come of age!
May 1084: Novgorod had declared war against the Tribe of Karelia, and taking advantage of situation, troops were sent towards the Tribe of Kexholm. Not far after, it was announced as part of our principle.
It was not long after that a marriage was declared between Bryachislav and Sofia.
Counthood of Narva was given as a wedding present.
I was in a bit of a hurry when searching wife for Bryachi, in fact looks like i did a mistake in choosing her. The loss of fertility from temperance is not the biggest of problems, but that she is the only one alive of the four children in her family!
And just when everything was happy in Princedom, the balance was disrupted:
Domazhir confessed that it was possible, since he missed the warmth of her wife, and that he had vague memories of being with another woman at a party, badly drunken. So another children at the court and more restless nights ahead.
Sep 30 1085. The newest member of family died, and though it saddened Domazhir, he knew that it would mean better sleep at nights.
Well, it seems that my choosing of Sofia for Bryachi was both good and bad decision; she died 3 years after marriage, but gave birth to a Viacheslav, 5784, whom is certainly of better blood that he's father. Byrachi's second wife was not worth mentioning.
And in other news:
Not long after, Yaroslaw was married to Anastasia Rurikovich, whom with nightly joys would cause no longer hassle in court.
May 7, 1091. The chiefdom of Dorpat rebelled from Livonians, this was the moment Doma had beed waiting, troops were mobilized and send towards Dorpat.
The outcome was expectable, Livonians lost 2000 men in battle, with losses of Pskov being only 1000. What was unexpectable, is that Livs converted into Orthodox only one month after conquering. Reason to that can only be speculated. But the result was clear: Pskov was twice as large as before, albeit indepted after the war.
Aug 25, 1093 Domazhir (54) died unexpected of old age. He was named in annals of Pskov "Domazhir the sceptical, soldier of Pskov"
Bryachislav of Pskov - 1093
Notice how pious our new prince is
Nov 22. Countess of Vodi didnt trust the new liege, and began a rebellion. Rebellion was crushed quickly.
In other news:
Yeah right..
Oct 1094. Our neighbors at East, Novgorod were getting beaten by a tribe of Urals. We
mobilized our troops and began offence to protect them.
Nov 1094. County of Novgorod was liberated, however this was not enough to save other parts of the principality, which were conquered by pagans.
Apr-May 1095. Lettigallians declared war upon us. A grand mobilization was urgently declared and troops hastly gathered.
Time til dec 1096 was plain Chaos, Torzhok and Livs both rebelled, and there was little time to reorganize just conquered Lettgallians.
Jan 1097. People of Torzhok decided that rebellion was not worth it, and gave up.
Bryachislav declared himself Prince of Pskov, Esthonia and Livonia.
Feb 1, 1097
April-May. Vodi rebelled again, and were crushed.
August 98. Tavasts made a mistake and declared war upon us.
Nov 1, 1098. County of West Dvina rebelled also.
Jan 1099. Karelians joined the war against us. Is is getting quite desperate around here.
Sep 29, 1099. Karelians were forced to peace
This expansion is getting a bit out of hand, i think i need a kingdom title soon.
January, 1100. Its 4AM, and i think i will stop writing for now and continue later. So far the game has been good for me, but also it has been most abnormal so far. Byzantion has been conquered by Seljuks. Pereyaslav will soon declare itself the King of Rus. Spain is free of Muslims. Title of king of Lithuanians will be hard to get, since some of the core areas are controlled by Pereyaslav. Cumans have been almost wiped out, and they will be soon be in problem as i will expand my area around Novgorod.
