How did this happen? We're in July already?

That means that YOU can vote for YOUR favorite AARs in the Q2 2025 ACAs! For the new here, that is AARland Choice Awards!

The ACAs are as before hosted under the supervision of me, your friendly AAR fan Nikolai.

This time around you can vote for any AAR that had an update between April 1st, 2025 and June 30th,, 2025 (inclusive). In other words, this ACA will cover Q2 2025.

Voting will start now and end in five weeks, at 20.00 CEST Sunday August 10th, 2025.

You may nominate up to four AARs for each of the following games:

Crusader Kings II
Crusader Kings III
Europa Universalis IV
Victoria II and 3
Hearts of Iron IV
Stellaris

and up to four additional games in the "Other" category, which includes all other Paradox games not mentioned above.

Kindly use the following format:

[Name of game/"other"]
1. AAR name, author, URL
2. AAR name, author, URL
3. AAR name, author, URL
4. AAR name, author, URL

If an URL has already been posted once, there is no need to put it up again.

The deadline for voting is 20.00 CEST Sunday August 10th, 2025.

With that said, it is now time for the voting to begin!

- Nikolai, host of the ACAs

Getting a bit worried here. Never seen so poor turnout.

If it is OK with forum etiquette, I will mention this thread during next week in all active AARs I am following.

I have a suggestion for a slight rules change to encourage involvement in a way that feels positive.

Suppose that, if you notice that you are the first person to nominate an AAR for an award, you are obligated to post something in their AAR that says, “hey! I just nominated you for an ACA award for this quarter for this AAR. I hope that everyone who follows will participate by voting. It’s also a great way to learn about other high quality AARs that you haven’t read.”

This feels a little better to me than posting in my own AARs. Even if it’s not self serving, it feels that way. It’s also a fun way for the author to get their community of readers campaigning for their AAR. It’s more exciting to vote as a reader, too, if you feel like you’re supporting a movement rather than stroking your author’s ego. How would people feel about adding that step in the instructions on each ACA thread?

Sounds good to me.
I would even suggest posting about the ACAs on every AAR you are following, without being too intrusive (if other user has already posted, then do not post).

I don’t understand how this works. Posting here is described as both nominating and as voting, when outside of AARland those are usually 2 separate things.

Adding to my confusion, in OT we have a monthly vote for Post of the Month. We have a nomination thread, and then a separate vote thread, which is a poll. Both of those threads are handled by a moderator. (Possibly due to technical limitations, we can only vote for one, so I can see that a poll probably wouldn’t work here.)

Lastly, I mostly only follow a few CK3 AARs. Taking all this together, I don’t feel like this is something I ought to participate in.

As far as I understand, You can cast your vote, up to four AAR per game. Yes, nomination is the vote itself. So you can 'repeat' an AAR previously nominated, it would count as two votes.
(Nikolai will correct if wrong)

All votes are welcome.

Yes (except for the two vote part). All of the nominations are tallied at the end of the ACA segment. The AARs with the most nominations are the 'winners' in each category. You don't need to post a full slate. Just post what you are currently reading. An AAR can be nominated each ACA segment, so long as it's current (i.e. The War of the Roses).

I meant, you can nominate an AAR already nominated, so that AAR will have 2 nominations/votes (yours plus the previous it already had)

If someone thinks about 'nominations' as a first step to be featured on a voting poll, then they would not nominate a repeated AAR, as it was already nominated to the poll.

So, briefly, we both are trying to explanain the same mechanics and get lost somewhere in between...

Yeah, this is on me. What we do here is not two part and votes and nominations is the same thing. I will try to fix that part of the post to next time. Actually, we have a similar issue with the weekly awards. There, one nomination equals one win. :D

But please, please, please Flockingbird, do participate. Don't let one stray word ruin this for you and us. :(
