My question is:

What determines the length of an alliance? It always seems that the AI has alliances that last 50+ years, while I have to reform my network about once every 5-10 years. :( Basically, how can my poor newbie self save diplomats, since early in the game I am intent on trying to get RM'd with anyone I might be scared of.

Alliance lasts for 10 years, but they are automatically expanded if even one of the allies goes to war.

Go to war.................

Although you are getting some nice diplomatic points every time you reform your alliance at the ten year mark, and you do save a lot of money by not getting into "perhaps not strictly neccessary" wars.:)

Not if you declare the "completely unfightable" war by DoWing somebody like Nubia (don't call in your allies) and just sitting there for three years till a white peace is declared :D

Ah, of course-how foolish of me to forget that! It's not quite free though, since you still need to recover from the stability loss.

Not to mention Nubia can have some "unexpected" allies-so always make sure you check first, in this case, Duuk!:)
