Question about Alliances

After many hours of playing I still havent figured out one thing. How do I get my allies to join me in a war? I have looked at the manual and found nothing to answer my question. As I wa splaying as Netherland I was allied with both England and Heseen. The French Alliance declared war on me and since I had jsut annexed Hannover my army wasnt in great shape. THe only thing that saved me wa smy massive fleet form the beginning of the game and that Spain had a few provinces between myself and France.

I luckily survived the war and had a rgeat future in that game, but I still want to know how to ask my allies to join me in wars!! How do I do it?

After you declare war, you should see a small box on the upper right of your screen with your flag in it.

Click it and a box will display saying something like:
You declared war on X, should we call upon our allies to join us?

You can accept or decline this...

Ohhhhhh

So thats what those were. I saw those and didnt know what they were and everytime went to click on them it was too late and they dissapeared
