Hello everyone. I am a longtime fan of Paradox games, EU4, CK2/3, HOI4, Stellaris, VIC 2/3. I am currently planning to upgrade my hardware. I know that every game provides a minimum HW requirement. However, I would like my beloved games to run SMOOTHLY and with maximum graphical settings. I also would like to use a wider screen. Currently I am playing with a 2560*1440 monitor using another monitor for YouTube, browser etc.

So, I have considered the following setup:

Desktop CEPTER EXTREME R48 R9:
- AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X
- 32 Gt DDR5 RAM, 2 Tt M.2 NVMe SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16 Gt
Monitor 1: LG 38GN950-B QHD 38" (for game)
- 3840*1600
- 1 ms
- 144 Hz
Monitor 2: (for browser)
- Current 2560*1440 monitor

The desktop will be dedicated to PDX games and EVE Online, with some watching of YouTube videos.

Do PDX games support well this HW combination? Also 3840*1600 graphics?

The overall price tag for the combination is quite hefty, around 4 800 euros in Finland. I would really appreciate any comments/recommendations/experiences or known functional desktop/monitor combinations to run PDX titles in highest possible graphics settings!

Dont get the 4080, it's a waste of money. The amd cards coming next month will be both faster and significantly cheaper. 7900x is pointless , won't give more perfomances in games its a production cpu, games don't utilize that many cores. 13600k would be better paired with 7900xtx would be the best next gen imo. However having said that, that config is overkill for the games you state unless you get a 4k monitor instead.

You should be aware that in Pdox games the AMD ...3XD versions are wiping the floor with the regular versions, these aren't available for the new 7xxxx series yet. A 5800X3D is faster in Stellaris (especially in the late game, in the first 100 years it could be different but as soon as the CPU is running out of cache the 3XD is clearly faster) than the 7900X and doesn't require DDR5. The 7xxx3DX versions are expected earliest in late 2023Q1.

Just to add to this: The 5800x3d is in most games the clear superior CPU to the 7900x while being much cheaper in total system costs.

Here is a comparison in Stellaris to the 5900x (the 7900x is less than 20% faster), the 5800x3d is 63% faster

There is no objective reason for the 7900x in the moment in a gaming system (work system is a different story) except that the the 5800x3d is the last CPU for the AM4 Socket but AMD already said that the AM5 won't last long.
