On the Steam site, it says a Broadband internet connection is required as minimum. Does this mean the game have any sort of online DRM with it or is this hopefully just a misunderstanding?
I hope it can be played completely offline after download. We all know what could happen if it doesn't. Modders! :p

All steam games require an internet connection the first time you install the game. After that you can play offline.

This is true, but it wouldn't be a minimum requirement in that case, but a one-off requirement. Minimum should be the requirement to run the game every time.

Once downloaded the game can be played offline.
It's only because there is a download need (no physical copy) that there is this requirement stated.

The Steam argument makes no sense, because then all games on Steam should have this requirement.

Notice that Civilization V - which has a multiplayer feature - does not have this requirement.

However, I am going to assume this is a mistake on Paradox's side, because they were basically filling in the form for a game Steam gives them, and thought that it would require a broadband network connection for the download.

I assumed the network requirement was reserved for playing multiplayer.

All updates and DLC needs internet connection so in fact if you want a good gameexpierence you need internet so its a requirement. Even you want share or get Mods or Intersections and so on you need internet connection.

I agree, but since few games post a network requirement, people will get the wrong idea. Certainly Civ5 has DLCs, expansions and mods as well. And the better your connection, the better the experience dealing with these aspects.

I'm not certain why it was decided to be listed as a minimum requirement. However, I can assure you 100% that you can play Cities: Skylines offline. The only online requirement is a one time activation. Hope that puts your concerns to rest =)

Before SimCity 2013 came along I would've called this thread hysterical. Now the the paranoia is justified, especially since many Steam games don't list this requirement and because you don't actually need high speed internet to do that initial download [sucks to be you if you don't have it though, haha]. Glad we got a clarification.

It's required to get the game running, so therefore it is a requirement.

Not necessary, if you play steam in offline mode you dont need to

Should probably get that changed to avoid bad feelings... like certain sim city game might've caused with its always online DRM...
