Question concerning download of 1.2

Greetings all.

I am relatively new to this game, and it was not too long ago that I bought it. How ever, since I only have the basic version of it, and wish to upgrade the game with 1.2 - or any other patch/mod I find interestning.

Now to my problem, I seriously have no idea of how to implement a patch. I am quite sure that I can figure out how to download it all...Still, since I have never done, or bothered, to do something like that before, I am not sure on what to do once I have downloaded. Do I just have to restart my computer and start up a new game, or do I have to adjust certain files/coding etc in order to make the patch work?

Since I have more or less no clue on how to do it, I would sure appriciate if someone could take the time to just write down a simple "manual" on how to do, in order to get it right.

Sure, download the patch, hopefully it will be in EXE format.
When downloading it be sure and save it on your harddrive in some place it will be easy to find.
Maybe create a folder in My documents and call it downloads. THen in this download folder create a folder called HOI2, save any patches or mods in this folder, that way they are easy to find.

Assuming it is EXE file, that is a file ending in .EXE, then you just go to the folder you saved it to. Then double click on the file to run it, it then installs the patch for you and you can then run the game.

If it is a .ZIP file or a .RAR file, then that means someone Compressed the .EXE file so that the file would be smaller to make it easier to Download. In this case you would need to uncompress or "Extract" the file before you could run it. If this is the case post back here and I will give you more help on how to do this.

The patch, once you have downloaded it, is what is known as self extracting package. When you start it (by double clicking on it), it will self-extract to a temporary directory on your C: drive (Windows determines where), and start running. It will try to locate your current version and where you installed it. When located, it will update the necessary game files to version 1.2

Once that's done, your game version will be 1.2, and you can simply start it as before, by double clicking on the Hearts of Iron II icon.
