Question on Modding Monarchs

Is it possible to modify the Monarch files. Everytime I change one I have to alter its format to read it. Then, once its in notepad or wordpad, the game doesn't read it and the monarch names simply come up as culture fitting past names(like Jones or Buckingham). So, do I not have the right program to view them correctly? Or is there one I can use?

It isn't true that when you convert them to notepad that the game cannot read them. That will only happen if you have changed the file extension.

All of the monarch files need to have - as their extension = the tag of the country. So, monarchs.eng for England and so forth. If you or the computer has somehow altered it to become monarchs.eng.txt or somesuch then, yes, the game won't read it. You'll need to slow double click on the file and return it to monarchs.eng

you have not to alter format, simply use "open with program" and use notepad or similar, then save the file

I dont know, maybe I'm still doing something wrong but my file is called monarchs.eng and when i hover over it's even listed as a ENG file. Is there a .txt or .something that maybe implied but not written?

it must remain .eng .mlo .spa .rus and so on
you can however read it with notepad and similar

Be sure extensions are displayed. See "Options of folders" in "Tools" menu (not sure of the real name of items in English version) of the window displaying content of the monarchs folder. There is a checkbox called "Hide extensions of files..." in the "Display" tab.

right click the monarch file, go to "Properties".

There should be a box with "Read-only" and a check mark. Click the box to remove the check mark, then click "ok".

Right click on it again, scroll to "Open With =>" and select whatever program you want to open it with (like Notepad)

When you finish altering it, save with existing file extention.
