I am curious about something and what MP input about it.

Do you or your regular MP groups have house rules about playing the US in the '36 scenario or is the US off limits?

If there are house rules briefly what are they?
 
Not really, most US players play rather historically and are close with allies while researching, then join the war against the axis, but some times you get those odd balls that try to take all of south america which is really annoying. :rolleyes: but i dont really play with any house rules besides no tech sharing.
 
House Rules

A little organization at the start of a long term MP game is wise.

Frankly I think there should be some rules but not many on the US player. Clearly they have an advantage at the start of the 36 campaign, they can sit back and build.

Conversely you have to counter that by any means you can, its a challenge and part of the fun of the game I feel.

so to answer your question, no no rules on USA, but with more expirence that could become a nescessity.

What makes that really problematic is that the US isn't bound to one allience.

What if the US decides to join the Axis, and then it Can go invading South America very easily (so long as Germany does the DoWing) -

I'm inclined to suggest a Historical alliance rules for my next game, but in the end, it really depends on how you want your games to go. Do you want REAL diplomacy where anyone can do anything, or do you want a game where the Allies are unltimatly only interested in beating the Axis, and vice versa.....

I find that in my MP game play most players lean toward the historical path. It just seems to be a comfort zone and something that gives them a framework for thier strategy.

The beauty of the 36 scenario is all bets are off, and anything can happen. Yeah there are historical events but other then that no guarantee's. I like knowing that in the 36 scenario you can chang history and that actually Germany is in a much weaker postition.

Its weaker because the US and Russian player have extra years to prepart for war, USA didnt go full tilt into rearming until 41, and the 5 extra years gives them one hell of a tech advantage.

However you can always land a few divisions in the US early in the game and roll the country up, a non histotrical reality that can happen in HOI, the US Mainland is not safe by any means.

Why not just start the game in 36 and disallow any attacks on playable nations. Then bring in players 1 year before they entered the war historically? If the war starts a year early then bring then in year early. That way they cant disrupt the game and the players will not be able to *forsee and plan* for a general war?
