Having done a bit of reading on the ancient world (and thus having come to the conclusion that I want to mess with the base game), several questions have arisen about various aspects of the game that I would like to modify if it is possible to do so.

First, is it possible to make non-monarch offices hereditary? It could be very useful for things like representing Spartan government (whether as a two-king monarchy or as a very odd republic with hereditary thesmothetes).

Second, for similar reasons to the above, is it possible to adjust the minimum amount of time before you can turf people from offices?

Third, is it possible to mess with the formula for determining senate support for candidates for leadership of a republic? Right now it really seems kind of random.

I don't know about the first one, maybe it could be simulated through decisions and events. For second and third you should have a look at defines( search for _CDEF_SENATE_RED_THRESHOLD_), officeterms and governments.

Thanks. :)

Another question - I've been editing some characters, and they're all displaying as being sixteen years old (one should be eighteen, one should be seventeen and one should be sixteen. Damn polygamous kings with multiple offspring).

Anyone have any idea what's causing this?

EDIT: I'd accidentally set two of them as being born at the same time from different mothers. I think the engine didn't like it.

Manpower, tax income and army size limit are the most important factors here.
I usually make game balanced by:
-raising and balancing army size limit in static_modifiers
-raising starting armies via decision and event
-giving each country a capital province modifier (you could call it centralisation)

Huh. So it can't be done directly (i.e. there's no part of the file where it says Rome starts with X heavy infantry and U thousand elephants in Y province, the Seleucids have Z thousand militia in D, etc)?

The best way I can think of is to add a minor title for the title holder's son. When a character gains the major title, you can code it to automatically give one of his sons the minor title. You can also set it so that if the major title holder dies, then the title is automatically given to the character with the minor title. And so the cycle will continue.

Of course, if the major title holder has no sons then you'll have to code in something to allow the player to give the minor title out to someone else.

Yes. The minimum length of time for holding an office is in defines.txt (CHDEF_MINIMUM_JOB_TERM).

Sorry, hardcoded.

Having ransacked various files without success: how can I adjust country's starting armies? I know it's possible, but I can't seem to find the information anywhere.
Starting armies are hardcoded, but you can add to a country's armies via script (events, decisions, titles, etc.). For example, this already happens in vanilla for Epirus and Parthia and maybe a few others in the flavor.txt event file. You can also be fancy and make it all "behind the scenes" by making them happen via a decision that is triggered in a country's history file, or by a special title that triggers at the start of the game but never again. But the event route is probably the easiest.

Hey there Im new and looking into getting started modding. Have plans to do whole Roman Empire carried through EU:Rome all the way to HoI: Darkest Hour, slightly modding all the games to match the outcome of the previous and such. Back on subject, I was wondering if there was a guide to point me in how to add charterers and start a family within EU:Rome and maybe bit more info on adjusting things such as tech, trade and Also I am using the awesome Epigoni mod as it adds alot more years to play and more depth. Ive found where the characters are kept I was wondering if I simply add my own file in the same area and just fix when he lives and dies and such like that or is there more to it?

Is there a possibility that the ships of the enemy with the Annektion can be awarded one as a booty?
If there is a possibility that one says his enemy in a victory (if it is a bigger country) that he must reduce his fleet. Would this go? And if so like?

I am playing Reign of the ancients, but have a problem with elections of minor offices.

Can anyone help me in unmodding this, I mean to be allowed again to choose the minor offices, and clean up minor offices elections.
