Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I'm REALLY excited about this game. I just had a couple of questions if anyone knows the answers!

1. Are there any parts of this game that will require hearing to participate fully? I know this is kind of rare, but sometimes the smallest parts of a game (like a fishing mini game or combat) will require hearing and I don't know it going in and can't really play properly. It's annoying to find that out after I've already purchased the game.

2. Are there any videos of the game or gameplay out there that actually have captions? I've been watching playthroughs and stuff on Youtube and various websites to kind of get the feel for the game, but I can't really understand what they're saying and it's hard to read the interface because it's tiny. I'd like to know more going in so I can start planning out my city now. I know it's rare to notice this unless you're deaf or you really like captions, but I thought maybe someone knew!

Thanks in advance if anyone actually replies to this!

I don't know, and this doesn't affect myself, but this gets my vote for the best question ever!

As far as the captions go... doesn't YouTube have a built in captioning feature that captures speech and attempts to provide text? Look for a little "CC" icon down on the play bar.

I'd guess you are in the clear. The tropico games never relied on sound and this seems to be in the same vein.

There are no subtitles in the game - the spoken text always mirrors what is already on the screen, e.g. for notifications.
It's mostly for atmosphere, never providing information that's not already avaiable visually.

On PC, you can scale the interface up and down to suit your display setup and preferences.

When you pull up a video that you'd like to watch on youtube, there is a CC button available to you. You can find that in the bottom right corner of the screen (when full screen). It's the fourth button from the right.

Hope it helps.

Just to add for those suggesting the CC option on YouTube, unless the video uploader has done the captions, auto-captions can be fairly terrible at times. Particularly when dealing with non-native or "uncommon" accents (non-standard American or British). I don't know what non-English videos' captions might look like, but probably worse for captions even.

Otherwise, I'd like to mirror the earlier comment about a great question. The Deaf community is often left out from consideration for things like this (gaming).

I don't know if you know this or used them.

The CC usually come out kind of broken and without punctuation. It is not always possible to fully comprehensive especially if the speaker has a strong accent and come out with "strange phrase" that make no sense.

It was hard to follow CC like that. In short not always reliable.

BTW I am deaf as well.

From what I've seen watching the game the main time hearing is helpful is for audio alerts. However, all of those alerts are also displayed via text in the upper left corner of the screen. You can kept track of everything if you keep looking there, but if there's a lot going on you may forget. You just need to remember that as someone who cannot hear the audio alerts you have to keep checking that corner of the screen and you should be set.
