Try the AVI folder rename. That has been known to cause problems with the music as well. That way you may be able to use the music again. Also which publisher version are you using eg. Strategy Frist or Pan Vision.

Yep the Bink player is very touchy at best. 
Glad the bypass worked for you though. Once you have seen the intro it is better to get right to the game anyways.
