There are still random crashes with 1.04. In my latest game, I did not have any crashes up til about 1620. Then for some years I had the game periodically crashing once a year. (Seems to be over now, fortunately.) I didn´t change my system configuration of course...

Edit: Some other German players I have contact to have confirmed that they too experience yearly crashes around 1625.

I had repeated freezes in the game, where the keyboard and mouse are not working and the only solution is to cut the power (i.e. reset button) to get control back of my system. I had several of them in my old W98 setup and thought it was because of that install was buggy, old and W98 isn't particularily stable... But now I've upgraded to W2000 and I've cut the number of them down to one third or something but it still happens. Sometimes after a few months of play, some time after a several decades and hours of actual time.
I've had it once on the desktop of W2000 too, so I suspect that it's some piece of my HW that the game doesn't like, any suggestions ? I did install the newest drivers when I upgraded to W2k for about 3-4 weeks ago, but I'll look again for newer versions...
Anyone else experiencing this ?

I had not had any crashes at all, and thought about writing a post about the remarkable stability of the game, when suddenly I had 2 'back to Windows' crashes in a row. Bugger.

I'm about to upgrade to 128 MB since I suspect it might be a memory management problem, that's maybe inherent in the Windows 98 system I'm running. Have you noticed how the game slows down after some hours play and starts a lot of disk swapping? I'm no programmer, but to me it sounds like a memory management issue.

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

That's true, you need quite a lot of memory for this game and as my W2k boot system eats up around 80MB of my 128MB there isn't much left :( Hopefully I'll have less problems when I get another 128MB for Christmas (or if not I'll buy it myself after :)

I had only one crash in ~ 3 hours. But after upgrading to 1.04 I had 5-6 crashs in a row, always after a year or so. :( (This happened close to the end of the GC [after 1780]).

So I'm now a bit suspicious about the 1.04 patch.

Well, I have 256MB RAM and in the 3-4 weeks playing now EU I had a total of maybe 3 crashes (back to windows desktop), regardless which patch of EU I installed.
So a memory or patch issue it can't be, I believe, the back to windows crashes normally points more to directx issues.
I think 3 crashes in 3-4 weeks is normal and acceptable, I can't remember a game that never ever crashed, altough it would be nice never to have one. I switched the autosave option to one year, so you don't loose too much with a crash.

I never ever had Minesweeper for Windows 3.1 crash on me :)
Whatever happened to it anyway? Maybe Microsoft just couldn't accept the fact that they actually produced a flawless piece of software?

I think I've found my problem at least :)
As I suspected it had nothing to do with EU. I started playing Diable 2 again yesterday, and after 3 minutes I had the same problem. So I searched around on the net and it seems the problem was Microsoft's implementation of VIA's AGP port wasn't good, a little fix from MS and voila... everything seems rock solid !
I've played Diablo now for 6 hours straight and no problem... :))

And now only 1 week left until I'm finished with exams and get lots of time to play EU :))
