I just upgraded from a

3200+ Amd Athlon Barton
Nforce 2 chipset
geforce 6800
1 giga of ram

to

3700+ Amd Athlon 64 San Diego
Nforce 4 Chipset
geforce 7800 GT
1 gig of ram (same)

Running Windows Xp Prof sp 3
HoI 2 1.3a

I understand as I play longer the game eats up more memory, I would rarely crash to desktop before I upgraded. After the upgrade, I crash maybe every month to month and 1/2. I play on fastest but like I said I never crashed that much before at this speed. I was wondering if there is anything I can do? If this is too vague Ill post more info.

Thanks

Other than follow my standard advice, I would suggest playing the later stages of the game on normal speed.

Standard Advice being:
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

I figured it out, my mb didnt let me set the timings on my RAM til after I upgraded the bios.

Even thought my RAM was made for 2 cas 2-2-6 settings, it seems to error alot unless I set it down to 2.5 3-3-6. I couldnt set it til after I updated the bios, which it was using the manufactures settings of 2 cas 2-2-6.

Working fawlessly now. Good Idea to look at the RAM timings, maybe turn them down(higher timing number = slower or setting them down) a bit might prevent crashing to desktop.

Glad you got it sorted.
