Have a frustrating problem with HOI2. (Had same problem with HOI.) Playing as Germany, I experience random crash events in both tutorials and single player scenarios. (Since I can't duplicate this, I'm not attaching a save file.) When this happens the screen flickers wildly for about one second and there is a sound like crackling electricity. My computer shuts down compleletly and automatically reboots. I have disabled the avi file as suggested and have nothing running in the background.

System Specs:
Game Version: HOI2 ver.1.00 (CRWK)
OS: MS Windows XP Home Edition ver 5.1.2600 service Pack 2 Build 2600
CPU and Speed: e-machine Model T5026, Intel Pentium 4, Processor 519, 3.06 GHz
RAM: 1,022 Mb, 1Mb L2 cache 533 Mb FSB
Free Disk Space: 131.87 Gb
Sound Card: RealTek High Definition Audio
Video: Intel 82915G/GV/910 GL Express Chipset (128 Mb
Direct X Version: DirectX 9.c

Purchased this unit in January and it has performed very well with other applications including some fairly complex games such as SuperPower.

HOI2 sure seems like a fascinating game. I would love to be able to play it in a stable environment.

By the way, XP offers the opportunity to run a program in "compatibility mode" Have not tried that, but wonder if anyone else has?

Thanks. Will sure appreciate any good thoughts/advice.

Welcome to the forum.

The first step is ofcourse to apply the 1.1 patch.

Did that yesterday and "uninstalled" everything with "Norton" or "symantec" in the title. Same result. Am trying to get another computer set up for this today to see if this is a hardware glitch.

Also make sure you have updated all drivers, OS/Video/Audio ...

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Just for the record I'll follow through with your instructions (may be helpful to others.) HOWEVER, I got my business laptop out of the shop today (Compaq Presario 3150) and installed HOI2. After the past 2+ hours, running the game with and without the bink file and with and without the patch, have experienced NO problems. (Win XP HE is also the OS on the laptop.) This MAY be some sort of incompatibility with a device or device driver but does not look like a "generic' issue you really need to worry about. None the less will follow through but put this on your back burner.

By the way, thank you for the very timely responses and your obvious desire to service this product!! (Don't experience this every day, you know.)

User specific problems is what the tech support forum is for.

Genaric problems that are the fault of the game are bugs.
We don't deal with bug here those are sent in by e-mail.

You have run it for only 2 hours on the laptop and you write "HOWEVER"? Maybe you should run it for a bit more than that.

In this forum we tend to be helpful and poilte, your comment was neither. ;)
