Hey everyone, I found several months ago a really sweet program called RandRoadProject in this forum that automatcially creates random scenerios for HOI2. Ever since I installed DD, it doesn't work, though the scenarios it made for HOI2 work on DD. I cannot find the original thread that I first found it in so I am asking in a new thread, is there a new version that will work for DD? And of course, thanks to the creator, it is a very handy program.

There is a link to it in my sig. The thread tends to get buried a few pages in.

I updated the program a couple of weeks ago to work better with Doomsday.

I changed the arrival of the start units so that the ai will declare wars as early in Doomsday as in the original version. I also added an option for each country to have a random number of spies in each other country at start.

Let me know if it doesn't work.

thanks a load. good job on it, by the way.

I got an error when trying to open the RandRoadProject.exe. It says "THe application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). I am guessing that it has something to do with my cpu, but if you have any suggestions they would be welcome.

That error is usually because the .NET framework from Microsoft is not found on your system.

If you don't have it, then you would need to download and install it before the program will work. If you do have .NET on your system and it still doesn't work I'm not sure what the problem would be.

I just downloaded and ran the program from the website, so the files there are still good.

My problem is that a few months back I downloaded it and tried to follow the instructions, but it still wont give me the option of playing that senerio. please help.

God I feel like a noob with this game.....

Are all nations approximately equal? At least in starting provinces?
Anything neat like a few cores on neighboring nations or nothing that intense?

You can select an option for the countries to have an equal number of provinces.

There is also an option for the countries to have cores on their neighbors. I think this gives them from 0-4 cores on two of their neighbors.

The resource locations will still unbalance scenarios with equal countries. "Shuffle Province Resources" which is selected by default simply moves the resources from each province to another randomly selected province, leaving the distribution the same. The "Sprinkle Province Resources" option spreads them more evenly if you are interested in a more equal scenario.

The program generates a folder that is meant to be used with moddir or JSGME.

For moddir you need to put the folder that is created in your HOI2 directory so that there is a d:\games\HOI2\RandRoad folder.

Then make a shortcut to it with "d:\games\HOI2\HOI2.exe RandRoad" as the target. You should be able to run that scenario from that shortcut.

Moddir isn't a program, it just means mod-directory. Many Paradox games allow you to put modded files in a separate directory and call that directory as a command line argument to load in the files.

All you need to do is to place the directory in the game directory so that along with "ai", "map", "db", and others there will also be a "MyMod" directory.

Then add "MyMod" to the target of your shortcut after the HOI2.exe so that it reads "d:\games\HOI2\HOI2.exe MyMod".

To find this target right click on the desktop icon and select Properties, then select the shortcut tab.

After this you should be able to start the mod from the shortcut.

That error should mean that

'C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\HoI2.exe' isn't the correct path to your game.

I'd check and make sure that is the correct directory and that there are no spelling errors in the shortcut target.

The folder name after the .exe doesn't really matter here. It still loads with a bad folder name, it just won't have any scenarios available to play.

It is correct.

I remove ' MyMod'" and it works. I add it and it stops.

I read up on this in the other thread. Somebody fixed this in the past by removing the mod directory from the quotation marks.

So instead of

'C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\HoI2.exe MyMod'

it would be

'C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\HoI2.exe' MyMod

Make sure to replace MyMod with the name of the scenario folder you create.

Hope this helps.

No. The only options are to start with no units or to start with 3 infantry and 1 transport each.

I plan to add that in the future. I was thinking of giving each country a different list of units of different types. I think it would be more fun in Doomsday not to know exactly what your neighbors have. I plan to do the same with techs.

I just uploaded a new version of the project that will allow you to select how many infantry each country will have at the start. The default is still 3, but there is a text box there to add in whatever you would like.

I plan to make it more flexible in the future, but this is a quick fix for now.

The newer version of the program requires .NET 2.0 to run. I've changed IDE's and for some reason an upgrade is required to run the programs.

The older version of the program is still available as well.
