Hello everybody-

Perhaps I've missed it, but has there been any discussion about the ransoming of nobility in CK? And by that I mean those captured in war . . .

Personally, I think it would be a shame to leave that out of the game, simply because it played such a huge factor in medieval warfare. Huge sums of money changed hands over ransom (off the top of my head, I can think of the ransoming of King Jean IV - that name's probably wrong - by the English for something like 2 million gold livres in the 14th century. That's a lot of livres!)

I realize that it would be possible to simulate this by forcing the loser of a war to pay a certain sum of money (a la the peace system of EU), but I would really prefer if there were a more detailed system to handle this. Say after a losing battle you are informed that sir-so-and-so was captured, and his ransom is some certain amount. You can choose to pay this amount in order to get your man back, or just let him rot :D The latter option will decrease your prestige . . . Or if you are the one who holds the captive, you can choose to have him executed, crippling your opponent but resulting in massive hits to your prestige and piety. I'm just throwing out ideas, but I think this would add a higher (and very historical) aspect to the game. What do you guys think?

and losing a chance at ransoming...

Actually this could go both ways for making offers. but i don't think every army's leader should be ransomable.

And what happens at the end of the war? Are all POWs released or just the losing side must release there's (if there is one) or would it be indivisually?

And i wonder, if you managed to sack Rome, could you ransom the pope (at a major hit to prestige and piety obviously)? What about heretic nations?

Will the player be able to ransom Enemy nobles/generals/princes, or will the computer only ransom?

Thanks. :D

Sergei mentioned a special screen for dealing with ransoming in an earlier update, so I would be very surprised if it wasn't in... :)

I think one thread at a time is enough... ;)

I've been reading a bit of a Welsh prosophony (or however it's spelt) and two things I've noticed (apart from being up to here in ap and ferch's).

The first relates to this topic which is the number of times these guys got captured and played different sides.

But the biggest thing was there has been how few deaths from natural causes. The nature of power rqeuires putting it on the line. As a player how do you feel about getting yourself killed (possibly quite frequently and over teh time period, a lot) to keep or expand your position. In EU type games as the omnipotent immortal, you are removed from this "shuffled off this mortal coil" stuff.

Or am I playing the 'dynasty'? or is it Falconcrest? :) sorry

You're playing the dynasty. So when you, as leader of the dynasty die, you are still the leader of the dynasty, but the next guy to take the throne. It is like in EU but there is no fixed line of succession as there is in EU.:)

That's what I thought - I was really asking how people will play the game. I suspect I will find that I'd get attached to a well performing king. Or will everyone use them as so much cannon fodder?

you as a player can initiate ransoms

How about the AI? Ransom was pretty much the expected method of the day. Hell armies could get very upset if they didn´t get their ransom money.:)

Surely most folks will get attached to a king who does well. You should see the tears in my eyes when Sulyman dies in EU II.:D
