Re-install failing

I attempted to reinstall EU2 1.08 today, so that we could have everyone at the same level for an MP game (which failed). After reinstalling, whenever I attempted to chose an MP option, my pc would freeze. So I reinstalled again. Now, the game refuses to load, stopping before Bink video has a chance to work. I've un-installed, and re-installed half a dozen times now. Made sure there were no remaining files, scrubbed my registry, defragged my hard drives, went to the library, came home, took a nap, tried again, and it still won't work.

I do have a second working copy installed, but that's solely for testing mods to the AGCEEP, so I can keep my files. I suspect this may be part of the problem, but it shouldn't be.

I'm using WinXP SP2 on a homebuilt Athalon 1900 system with a ATI Radeon 9600XT.

I suspect the software firewall of win XP but I will leave it to the experts in the MP forum, a forum where all MP issues belong.

Shut off the Windows XP firewall and MP will work again. Happend to me too.

Bink = evöl, kill it rename the avi folder (to avi_backup or whatever).

This isn't an MP problem. It was an MP problem.

It becamse a "I can't get the game to fucking work at all anymore" problem.

The self-help guide doesn't seem to address my particular problem.

You said you scrubbed your registry. I don't know what "scrubbed" is but I assume you used a registry cleaner?

You shouldn't have to totaly turn off the firewall just set it to allow EU2 to go through your firewall. With the default Win XP firewall a message will pop up asking you if you want it to block or unblock EU2 the first time you try to run MP.

Let's forget about the firewall. The firewall isn't relevant.

Okay first confirm for me that you have followed my standard advice.

1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.
