Since the game was released I've been having random stutter and crashes to desktop approximately every 5-20 minutes, on version 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2. Since this hasn't been a common problem reported I assumed it was something specific to my system, and since I've had similar issues with other games, though less frequent, I'd assumed it had to be a driver or memory issue on my side.

Several days ago while doing some internet searching I found a thread linking such problems potentially to realtek HD audio drivers in certain games and decided to try removing it and reverting to the default windows HD audio driver. Through multiple playthroughs after reverting the driver I can guarantee that ON MY SYSTEM, it was the culprit. Even more so because windows update kept re-'updating' the driver to the realtek one behind my back and causing the crashes to return (I've since figured out how to prevent it auto-updating to the realtek drivers).

I'm reporting this in case this is a wider issue with other users. If there is anything I can provide to help find a link between the drivers and the crashes, let me know

That is interesting, thank you for the input!

Do you happen to know which driver date/version you had? I know the RealTek update site is a nightmare to navigate but I wonder if a newer or older version might have helped.

the Realtek driver was version 6.0.1.7936, dated 9/13/2016, which is the version windows 10 automatically updates the driver to on my computer unless you prevent it. The microsoft driver is version 10.0.17134.319 from 9/7/2018.

There are certainly much newer Realtek versions than that, at least 2018 if not 2019, but as I say sourcing them is really hard!

Anyway thank you again for the input.

You inspired me. I went searching and managed to find a slightly newer version (realtek hd audio 6.0.1.8051, 1-25-17) on my motherboard manufacturers website that let me play about 4 hours last night with no crashes, so at least it was fairly specific to that driver version. Hope this helps if anyone runs into similar problems (plus yall won't have to sift through the three or four or ten crash reports I was sending in every night I decided to play)

Well done!
