Well I'll be getting Victoria: Revolutions this Christmas and I want some country suggestions. I like a medium country (as in it's easy and hard) as my first game. If it's too hard I'll go to an easier country..

I was thinking Prussia, but it looks quite hard.

So any suggestions? (two countries)

Thanks in advance. :)

For beginners, Belgium, Brazil or Sweden are usually recommended.

Sweden and Belgium are good suggestions, small, neutral countries with good economies where you can ease in to it. Prussia might be better suited for a second or third game, a lot of stuff happening there.

I suggest Spain. It's behind the other European powers at the start, but it has a lot of potential. It also has relatively few historical events, and iirc only one major war event (vs USA).

Might be a bit too backwards for a first game, but sure, it's not that bad.

Sardinia-Piedmont was always nice to me for starters.

Prussia isn't too bad a choice, if you know its history and are not too aggressive. You'll get a bit of everything: the liberal revolution, scripted wars and economy. On the plus side Prussia is a rather solid state with its high literacy rate and okay starting economy and military, so you can make a few mistakes without completely screwing up.
You may consider using the VIP mod, which makes life easier for you through its industry buildup events.
There is a nice Prussia AAR by OHGamer, which teaches the reader many useful aspects of country menagement. Very good for beginners or people who haven't played the game for a while.

I read that AAR, it was very good. :)

But like I said in other threads I usually like to work on the politics or the economy.. than start expanding. I like being realistic in games, so like not invading Russia like 3 years after playing..

Btw, I've changed my mind about getting V: R for Christmas. I'll wait till Vicky 2's out, and than wait a week and a bit, and see which one I'd enjoy most. Reason being is that I don't wanna waste my money, so if Victoria 2's a big success and I just bought Vicky than that would be a waste since I'd start playing Victoria 2 and than put Victoria 1 on the shelf..

Do you think that would be a good idea?

Also my four choices are: Spain, Prussia, and Norway, or Scandinavia in general.

That's a terrible idea. Buy Vicky and Revolutions now and then buy Vicky 2 at least six months after release.

I would suggest Belgium

Because you won't get attacked by your neighbours, moreover, it isn't too big to manage, and you learn a lot about the game because you'll be squeezing as much income as possible desperately.

It also isn't landlocked so you can try expanding also.

I don't really like the idea of prussia for beginners as there are too many wars to handle.

The netherlands could also be a good alternative, at least you can learn managing some colonies...

Except of course that you start the game being at war. ;)
